Coming hot on the heels of speculation that some Jeep production may be moved to China comes a bombshell from a Bloomberg report. Fiat is now considering moving Chrysler and Jeep production to Italy.
According to the piece, "To counter the severe slump in European sales, (Fiat CEO Sergio) Marchionne is considering building Chrysler models in Italy, including Jeeps, for export to North America. The Italian government is evaluating tax rebates on export goods to help Fiat. Marchionne may announce details of his plan as soon as Oct. 30, the people said."

This after all the hoopla over the Romney ad is hilarious!!
Hey Willard! Iff'n ya really wanna be president, ya might wanna make sure folks know about this 'n all ...
Jus' sayin' ...
I'm sure ALL the UAW shops in MI, WI and OH are talking about it right now.....
But,But, The Italians need the jobs and they shouldn’t have to pay the UAW.
Ralph Mancow is deeply saddened.

Three cheers for Agnelli! Or Marichonne!!
Whoever - they just stuck a red-hot poker up O’s anus.
Chrysler should be getting phone calls from the WH, DOJ, IRS, FBI, etc., to shut up about this until after the election, or even to announce that they will not move any jobs overseas.
That’s what gangster government does.
If this is being orchestrated as a trick they’d better hurry the hell up and get Fiat to change their minds.
They don’t fear Obama like they used to. Only the Republicans in the House & Senate still fear him.
LOL!! I don’t think that’ll be a problem
Is everything a democratic ploy? Maybe the leftists are just idiots who don’t know how to run an economy.
When your contact says you have to pay the guy who mops the floor $30 an hour, I can predict with 100% certainty what will happen in the long run, and you are seeing it.
Union have destroyed the middle class by pricing jobs so far out of whack with the market.
This is such a stupid interpretation of this story that I am depressed so many FReepers swallow this bilge.
Fiat has always planned for production of some small Jeeps in Italy.
This does not affect US production, especially since they have dumped billions into the Ohio assembly plants.
Don’t fall for this stupidity.
The union most likely gave the guy the job title of “Floor Sanitation Engineer.” That’s worth at least $40/hr, but the eeevil CEO is still screwing him.
Their toadies may be idiots, but their crooked sponsors are definitely not. The reason is that the left envisions a Cloward-Piven meltdown as an opportunity, not a problem. The poor among them (errantly) "think" they have little to lose and "somebody else's money" to gain. The extremely wealthy look to pick up the pieces from their "debtors" (the former middle class) selling their assets for pennies on the dollar.
Just what we need. Bio-degradable Chryslers, like the Fiat will be swept off the garage floor in 8-10 years.
When I was living in Italy last year, I saw Voyager minivans and 300C sedans under the Lancia marque. This saddens but doesn’t surprise me, especially since the Italians are scraping for jobs and the Italian government is scraping for tax revenue.
If NO Jeep models are manufactured in Italy and imported into the USA now, pray tell us how that it will not affect US production when\if it occurs in the future...
Sounds like funny math to me.
You have more faith in crony capitalists that I do :) If blackmail didn't work O would switch to graft.
” You have more faith in crony capitalists that I do :)”
I hate em, but even crony caps see the writing on the wall : )
So the way to boost European sales is to produce cars in Europe and export them to the US, where all the laid off Chrysler and Jeep workers will just eat them up. Great plan. Is it possible that as the EU implodes, people will simply be buying less cars there? Is it also possible that one shouldn’t open new factories in imploding economies, especially not after cashing big bailout checks?
Just what Obama wants.
Because these are Jeep models that do not exist. These are tiny Jeeps primarily for the European market, but will be sold here as well.
There may not be a net loss for Jeep production here in the U.S., though - the Grand Cherokee is going to serve as the platform for Fiat's new upmarket SUVs badged as Alfas and Maseratis.
Thank you Obama for giving our treasure Jeep to FIAT (the 'Fix It Again, Tony' company).
