A construction crane atop a $1.5 billion luxury high-rise in midtown Manhattan collapsed in high winds Monday and dangled precariously as a huge storm bore down on the city.

Residents in surrounding buildings were ordered to move to lower floors and the streets below were cleared, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

Authorities received a call about at around 2 p.m. as conditions worsened from the approaching Hurricane Sandy. Meteorologists said winds atop the building could have been close to 95 mph at the time.

They’re going to secure it? Prayers for them! It looks like a melted candle - the winds were that strong.

Realizing this is New York, there's little doubt that typical union "worker" "quality" was at least partly involved. The well-documented horror stories of shoddy manufacturing by the UAW at the Lordstown, Ohio plant come to mind. Big Labor goons are known to cut corners wherever and whenever possible. Take the Teamsters...please!

Authorities received a call about at around 2 p.m.

I need one of F.R.'s residents grammarians to tell me if this is proper usage or not.

It looks and sounds very wrong to me but I'm no grammarian.

Fake storm? No, it isn’t fake but it hasn’t been a Hurricane for almost 24 hours now either...not since it was downgraded last night to storm status. In order to have a hurricane you must have very warm water and air. Every foolish newscaster standing on a beach in NJ or NY has been commenting on how cold it is there.

So what we do have is a very real and very bad storm. But it is nowhere’s near as bad as the media is touting and hoping for. This morning I heard the weather channel predict electricity would be out on Election Day in WISCONSIN from this storm and that Lake Michigan would be flooding. Meanwhile their own Local Forecasts for Milwaukee predict partly sunny weather all week long and temps in the 40’s.

“Coincidentally” Wisconsin is one of 2 states that is supposed to be deciders in the election and in that light I have to wonder why The Weather Channel is predicting this storm to disable Wisconsin of all places.

Now who could have guessed a tower crane with its boom attached would give way and collapse in hurricane winds?

More BS from the grossly uninformed.

As of 7pm EDT the National Weather Service has officially downgraded Sandy to a ‘post tropical cyclone’ which is the technical name for a super storm.

Educate yourself and look at where the bands of rain from Sandy are now.

Looks as if any one of those words would work alone, omitting two.

At 2 p.m., around 2 p.m., about 2 p.m.

I live in Milwaukee. The wind is about 20 miles per hour per The Weather Channel and that paltry wind is coming out of the NORTH WEST. The wind isn’t even moving my bird feeders much. The current temperature per The Weather Channel is 45 degrees. There has been NO rain. Nada, nothing all day long. My electricity has not even flickered once today. I have heard NO reports of electricity being out anywhere in WI today. You go look at your bands of weather on the boob tube. I’ll go with reality.

I got the feeling you believe what you will rather it fits reality or not. I’m not even sure you believe Sandy was real or flimed on a Hollywood back lot like the ‘Moon Landing Hoaxers believe.

But its coming you way rather you want it or not.
