(CNN) - Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill's 84-year-old mother, Betty Anne Ward McCaskill, died on Monday, the senator from Missouri said in a statement on Monday.

"For some time, mom's health has not been good, and our family takes comfort that she is now at rest," McCaskill wrote. "People all over the state have asked about her, and their prayers and concern have been greatly appreciated."

It is always difficult to lose a parent, regardless of age. May God comfort the senator and family.

Funny how Dems who are desperate to win an election, seem to always have a dead or dying family member in the mix on the eve of the vote. Remember Obama’s granny?

I agree with your sentiment with one small change.

It is always difficult to lose a parent, regardless of age. May God comfort the senator and family IN HER RETIREMENT.

My condolences to the family. That said, here comes the sympathy vote. Will the Senator make a commercial stating that nana wanted more than anything to see her granddaughter win another term?

“Funny how Dems who are desperate to win an election, seem to always have a dead or dying family member in the mix on the eve of the vote. Remember Obama’s granny?”

The death rate of family members of Democratic candidates just prior to an election is for beyond coincidence and is likely all part of their plan to gain sympathy and garner more votes.

As a mother, McCaskill may have planted the early seeds for her daughter’s involvement in politics. “At Halloween in 1960, Betty Anne taught her children to say ‘trick or treat and vote for JFK,’ as they went door-to-door asking for candy,” an obituary distributed by Sen. McCaskill’s campaign read.

Claire McCaskill’s mother spoke in favor of Obamacare in 2009.
Remember the undecideds? let’s pray they don’t swing towards Claire now.

The deaths they face are neither funny nor something fairly called an evil scheme. We try to be above these kind of attacks on Free Republic, especially in threads announcing the passing of an individual.

It's not we conservatives who "unexpectedly" and mysteriously wind up with these situations which pull the heartstrings of voters during critical elections. It's the Democrats, and if you haven't noticed that coincidence, then you haven't been watching all that long.

Speaking of that, I hardly ever recall seeing you around here before, though I note we have very close 'born on' dates. Please don't deign to tell me what "we" do, or do not do, on Free Republic.

As Uncle Slayton remarked, "it's beyond coincidence..."

I don't think there's any doubt that such tragedies befall Republican candidates just as frequently as they befall Democrats, but our folks just don't seem to draw these things into elections as often as Democrats do.

Sorry, but the death of a senator's mother is NOT news.

A big loss for the immediate family but NOT news.

That it makes the news is a pathetic attempt to generate sympathy for a candidate in trouble. Nothing more.

No one finds it humorous that Claire McCaskill’s mother died. Thank heaven’s she wasn’t in one of Claire’s husband’s nursing homes.
We just believe the senate race is so important and that a McCaskill win would harm our children and grandchildren not only in MO but in this country. McCaskill’s voting record has caused considerable damage..her vote brought Obamacare over the top in the senate. Her mother favored Obamacare.
It is very sad to lose someone you love and especially a child or a parent but it is my hope the independents and undecideds do not swing over to Claire out of sympathy.
For example..I could not abide Sen Ted Kennedy when he was alive and my opinion of him never changed after his death.

McCaskill was up 2 in the latest poll which was her slimmest lead since September. It looks like Akin won't win unless Romney is able to pull him over the finish line.

Ashcroft and Carnahan was a different situation since John's opponent was killed and replaced by the grieving widow.

I have no doubt that McCaskill will use her bereavement to her advantage. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to press a grieving daughter for comments about her husbands business dealings that made her rich at the American taxpayers’ expense.

Dirty, Dirty Claire McCaskill – Husband Joe Shepard Awarded $20 Million in Stimulus to Benefit His Real Estate Projects
Claire McCaskill’s husband received over $20 million in Stimulus cash for his real estate projects. Senator McCaskill at the time had influence over federal policy that directly affected her family’s income

Claire McCaskill has Sold Out Missouri

It’s been revealed, Claire McCaskill’s husband was caught cutting business deals in the Senate dining room, selling tax credits tied to Obama’s stimulus money, money Claire McCaskill voted for. McCaskill uses her position and power to cash in. It’s no surprise that McCaskill thinks she’s above the law, she didn’t pay her taxes but voted to raise ours. The arrogance and corruption of Claire McCaskill. Dealing herself in. Selling us out.

Just last week, the National Legal and Policy Center identified $20 million dollars in stimulus funding that McCaskill voted to send to her husband’s businesses. That’s in addition to the $40 million of stimulus identified earlier this month.

Claire McCaskill and her husband, Joseph Shepard, profiteer off public programs that are suppose to help the poor. The website for Shepard’s company, Sugar Creek Realty, LLC, claims that they’ve facilitated $315 million in tax credits for a “representative” set of affordable housing projects—not the full project list. Shepard’s businesses syndicate those tax credits for their clients. Assuming that they make a gain of 10% to 25% in tax credit arbitrage, Shepard’s companies have realized $31 million to $79 million in revenue from just those representative projects.

I hope to live long enough that I will be denied a Bone Marrow Transplant by the Obamacare Death Panels.

Then before I die I can testify on Capitol Hill when they hold the Soylent Green Licensing approval meetings that President Moochelle Obama will launch.

I can see it now, Soylent Green, it's Organic and available to all 47 Million (and counting) EBT Card Holders.
