"We're looking at impact of greater than 50 to 60 million people," said Louis Uccellini, head of environmental prediction for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

I don’t see it affecting the election turn out, or having caused a lot of havoc...nothing at all like Katrina. They all got off easy. It appears from the first reports.

I fear it did cause 'a lot of havoc' - but, I'm with you, this election is going to take place, and Zero is going to lose by the largest margin in recent history - I think.

Very sad to hear about the victims—the two from The Bounty and the victims in this article. Prayers that there won’t be any more.

"Very sad to hear about the victims..."

Yes it certainly is. I particularly rue the two guyd on the Bounty. That shouldn't have taken place, imho.

Before it's over there will be more, but hopefully not so many. People largely 'got out of the way' - so one article has it.

Just read about a lady that stepped out into water where a livewire was located and got electrocuted. Quite a few reports of deaths coming in now.

Here in South Jersey, about 5 miles east of Philly, the rain is spitting but they are saying we will get a small amount more, maybe an inch before morning. We only got about 2" so far so this is not as harsh here as expected. Power is still on here, but the winds are strong. Maybe we'll end up losing some wiring overnight after all. So far my home has a busted fence, that's it. I do have a problem that my swimming pool cover pump keeps tripping the GFI and I'm not sure what that means but I do hope the worst of the rain is over.

Prayers for all in the wake.
The only way I see this effecting the election is if polling places flood, machines and ballots will have to be moved in a panic situation.
This could make for a lot of “lost” early ballots.

It won’t effect the overall election as this is hitting blue states primarily.
Any fraud will have no real impact.

High humidity is enough to trip a GFI breaker. Chances are it will work when things dry out.

Amen to that! Though this is primarily 'hitting blue states' I pray for all in those states.

“The massive storm was downgraded just after it barged ashore in southern New Jersey”

Katrina, Cat 5, 175mph
Allen, Cat 5, 190mph
Andrew, Cat 5, 175mph
Camille, Cat 5, 190mph measured before it destroyed the measuring instruments.

Sandy, Cat 1, 90mph. (the “monster storm” in history, because it happened in the belt between DC and NYC, the most important place on earth. Also, gave Obozo a chance to play master and commander of the far side of the earth)

We went to vote early on Saturday, the first day you can vote, in Monkey County Merryland and the line was more than half a block long so we turned around and went home. Sunday and today they closed the polls because of the hurricane and I suspect they will be closed tomorrow. That’s good for us.

Don’t know if you’ve heard about PEPCO or not but they are the worst electric providers in the country. Their power outages are infamous and the reason why I spent a small fortune putting in a generator and transfer switch.

Sandy never got above 45mph and our lights never went off...so far. Much ado nothing.

I’m holed up in Hagerstown, 2 counties northwest of Monkey. The power blunk for a second, once. Agh agh agh, they shut down Valley Mall for weather in which Chicago area malls would be defiantly blazing with light. McDonalds the only eatery still open and almost no customers.

Au Contraire, PEPCO is all above ground on telephone polls. The reason they have so many outages is because they didn’t cut down branches from large trees their lines go through.

LOL our electricity just went out as we spoke!!!!. Had to go start er up.

DC is all underground so when we had Snowmageddon, pre generator, we had to hold up there.

You lobby your state congesscritter and get underground electric, where you are I’m sure it’s a lot cheaper than around here. It’s so worth it.

you know I have the webcam looking out at Times Square and people are milling about....its wet outthere but no standing water....

this storm will be much like Katrina in that some areas will be hit very very hard and just a mile or two away, very little....except losing electricty or safe water will affect everyone...

There's so much exegerration about Katrina. Yeah highest maximum sustained winds went up to 175mph at one point but not inland yet.
1) It first made landfall on August 25, 2005 in South Florida, as a cat 1 hurricane. It had wind speeds of 80mph.
2) It made its’ second landfall as a Cat 4 hurricane near Buras-Triumph, Louisiana with 145mph winds. This happened on August 28th.
3) Katrina then made its third landfall near Pearlington, Mississippi and Slidell, Louisiana, with sustained winds of 120mph
Sandy made landfall at 90mph, not a frankenstorm after all.

So far it has less deaths than a warm night in Detroit.

I was thinking that so many people have stayed home the last few days that the number of traffic deaths are probably down more than the number of deaths caused by the storm.

We lost power here in Pt Jervis, NY around 8:15 last night. Still without power and sections of the man roads in Orange Cty were shut dowm because of fallen trees and power lines. Last I heard the winds will die down later in the day and any flooding we get wont be as bad as earlier predicted.
