FEMA, W.H. send storm victims to Internet

When President Barack Obama urged Americans under siege from Hurricane Sandy to stay inside and keep watch on ready.gov for the latest, he left out something pretty important — where to turn if the electricity goes out.

Despite the heightened expectation of widespread power and cable television failures, everyone from the president to local newscasters seem to expect the public to rely entirely on the Internet and their TVs for vital news and instructions.

None of the major cable or local news channels put emergency phone numbers or key radio station frequencies on their screens. The only phone-related instructions on the homepage of ready.gov is how to get monthly disaster-prep text messages. The Federal Emergency Management Agency told the public via Twitter to use texts and social media outlets to stay informed. . . .

since we are talking hurricane politics, consider that the worst hit thus far are all blue states: NJ, NY, DE, MD, CT.

Electoral effect on Romney: Near zero.

Two swing states (VA, PA) have been affected, at least residually, in their blue areas (northern VA, greater Philly). This could affect turnout and certainly has affected early voting.

Electoral effect on Obama: potentially decisive in a bad way.

Can you imagine the field day the press would have had if Bush did this?

I don't think you've taken the time to fully understand today's homes and neighborhoods. We have these things now, called "Light Switches" that make lights go on in rooms, and something called "Cable TV" that people can watch. We don't need as many "candles" and "transistor radios"...

I think this is Gods way of telling the Dems that he is still in charge, even tho they did not want his name mentioned in the democrat platform..and was booed when it was finally put in..

Once upon a time, at a company where I was Director of Operations, we had an emergency directors meeting about a network outage.

I gave a brief on the outage, steps being taken to get it back up and when we expected to be live again, and started coordinating resources..

HR director whips out her laptop, fires up Outlook, and starts hammering away at the keyboard.

I asked her what she was doing. Her reply? "I'm sending out a company-wide email to let everyone know when the network will be back up".

We all just stared. It took her 3 minutes to figure it out.

LOL! I love it!

But what’s even funnier is how you are supposed to use the internet, although so-called smart phones should be an exception, on your home computer systems when the power is out, because the router should take power, I guess that depends on whether or not you have a generator. But even then only a fraction of the homes I know would actually bother using the generator for a router as much as for more vital functions such as the refrigerator.

LOL, SO they can still do this when they have no power or can;t get to their house.

This admin is so out of touch with normal folk .

If Bush had acted like this over Libya and this storm then he;d be getting slammed right now.

I can;t wait for the adults to take back this country and leave the immature street thugs back in Chicago.

Same old, same old. Take someone completely inexperienced in disaster management and have that person be the manager of disaster management efforts. You’d think he would have had some experienced person prepare the instructions for him to read.

Yup. When the power goes out, stay tuned to your tv stations and computers for weather updates! And libs everywhere are whacking off over obama’s god-like handling of Sandy. Meanwhile, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell is dissing Romney for raising money for relief efforts. She calls them wasteful.

PA’s impact other than power outages has been relatively minimal.. sadly 4 reported deaths.. I wouldn’t expect it to affect much here.

Western part of state nothing more than some slight gusts and constant drizzle.

Certainly could have been worse, but looks like colliding of weather front and storm affected direction far more than previously predicted. Went from forecasts of constant rain all day today 2-3 inches total to 1/2 an inch on delivered on and off.

FEMA recommends using a Passenger Pigeon to send a short message with address where help is needed. They have authorized a grant of $100 million to ensure this Nation has enough Passenger Pigeons. Smiling as I type this.

Meanwhile....

Mitt Romney helps load a truck with relief supplies that will be delivered to storm affected areas in New Jersey during a Kettering Storm Relief event on October 30, 2012 in Kettering, Ohio.
