Al Gore calls Sandy a ‘disturbing sign of things to come,’ urges climate action By Ben Geman - 10/30/12 02:15 PM ET

Al Gore said Tuesday that Hurricane Sandy is a “disturbing sign of things to come” in a warming world and should prompt action to curb greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels.

“We must heed this warning and act quickly to solve the climate crisis. Dirty energy makes dirty weather,” the former vice president said in a statement on his website.

Gore cited Sandy, which slammed ashore late Monday, and smaller-scale flooding in his hometown of Nashville two years ago, noting “both storms were strengthened by the climate crisis.”

“Scientists tell us that by continually dumping 90 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every single day, we are altering the environment in which all storms develop. As the oceans and atmosphere continue to warm, storms are becoming more energetic and powerful,” he said.

Gore also said that as Sandy approached the East Coast, it drew power from abnormally warm coastal waters and that the storm surge was worsened by sea-level rise.

“Scientists tell us that if we do not reduce our emissions, these problems will only grow worse,” he said.

Environmentalists and a number of scientists, as Sandy menaced the East Coast, have highlighted the nexus between global warming and extreme weather such as heat waves, droughts and powerful storms. (E2-Wire has more on that here.)

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) also sees the hand of climate change in Sandy, a storm that caused widespread flooding, power outages and a number of deaths in the Empire State.

“Anyone who says there's not a dramatic change in weather patterns I think is denying reality,” Cuomo said at a press conference Tuesday.

Cuomo said officials must take into account the new reality of “extreme weather patterns,” and that he recently told President Obama “we have a 100-year flood every two years now.”

“There is no weather pattern that could shock me at this point,” he said.

Cuomo said in the late-morning press conference that 15 people in the state had been killed in the “catastrophic” storm, and predicted the tally would rise.

Nearly two million customers are without power in New York state, according to an Energy Department report Tuesday morning, including what Cuomo said were 90 percent of residents on Long Island.

The storm created major flooding in New York City, where the stormwater poured into the subway system, shutting it down. “The damage to the tracks, tunnels that are under water, is unlike this city has seen in decades, if ever,” Cuomo said.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said parts of the subway system would be out for days at least, according to The Wall Street Journal.

‘disturbing sign of things to come,’

You mean like your wife divorcing you, your son being arrested for drugs and you being accused of sexual molestation?

I believe algore is a “disturbing sign of things to come” given further human devolution. This thing (algore) is an embarrassment to all protoplasm. Maybe being raised in the penthouse of the WDC Ritz hotel caused him to not develop parts (most) of his brain?

Surprise, surprise, scheming globalist Gore is just dying to line his pockets with more filthy lucre. All we need is more gov’t, more taxes, more imaginary alternative energy, less rights and the climate would never change again.

Yeah, which reminds me, where have all the Cat 5’s gone? Second, I would argue that warmer temperatures on average are actually better. They certainly were better for Western Civilization, which could not be said for the Little Ice Age.

Yeah, which reminds me, where have all the Cat 5’s gone?

And we are still in the longest streak ever where the US mainland has not been hit by a major hurricane (Cat 4 or Cat 5). So what the Bobo's Warming Crowd have resorted to is to point out how large the Cat 1's and Cat 2's have become. You could see that clearly during Sandy as they hyperventilated about how large Sandy was. Unfortunately they were combining the clouds from the Cold Front to the west of Sandy with Sandy itself and making the viewer thing it was all Sandy. Deception and lies. That is all big government has left.

Guess the guy lost his mind. Anyways, our world has bigger climate issues, like people savagely raping and killing Americans, hopefully Indonesia stays from becoming a Benghazi rerun.

“Scientists tell us that if we do not reduce our emissions, these problems will only grow worse,” he said.

Some of these same "experts"(And using the same temperature data, no less) also were warning us in the Seventies of the "Big Chill"and famines and crop failures caused by by the same usage of fossil fuels that would bring on the next Ice Age.

Many of population alive today shouldn't be because of the fore-casted "Doom and Gloom" by massive hunger, energy shortages and wars caused by such deprivations

When that panned out it became Global Warming.

My opinion was and still is if Carter had won in 1980 and not Reagan, we WOULD have had such calamities because it would have been the results of the policies Carter and his "Energy crisis is real" policy pushers' agenda.

Thank God(countlessly) we were blessed with President Ronald Reagan who got the oil taps flowing again!!!

Yep, for certain, all storms are a disturbing sign of things to come.

Right after any big storm, we get Gore and the AGW crowd and Meghan McCain and the environmental wackos, all proclaiming that, it's a sign of "global warming", aka: climate change.

Those storms cause a lot extra damage to the country, when they bring out that disturbing crowd of people.
