SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Becky O'Connell left her South Dakota home on the simplest of errands: to go to the store for sugar so she could make lemonade.
When the 9-year-old didn't return, panic gripped Sioux Falls, prompting parents to round up their children and keep them indoors. But within hours, the mystery was solved — with a gruesome outcome.
Becky had been kidnapped, raped and stabbed to death, left to die on an earthen berm near the Big Sioux River that rainy night in May 1990.
Becky's killer, 60-year-old Donald Moeller, is set to die by lethal injection Tuesday night at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
Her mother, Tina Curl, has been steadfast in her wish to watch him die, raising funds to cover the expenses to make the 1,400-mile trip from her home in New York state to return to Sioux Falls for the execution.

He should have been dead 6 months after his sentence.
Who could be so sick or wicked as to grab a random little girl and misuse her and then kill her as casually as he’d kill a varmint. Lots of bikers, truckers, hunters, that kind of guy sport beards like that, and it doesn’t usually mean anything evil. This was evil, inhuman.

Justice finally delivered, but 22 years later...that is not justice. That is torment for the victims family so that those in charge of the state did not have to face their responsibilities to deliver justice. Don’t run for office or accept an appointment unless you are willing to administer effectively. It is a lonely and solemn responsibility, you must be firm in your convictions when you accept it. The administrators(Judges, Lawyers, Politicians) in this case failed the victim and society. Shame on them. There is no justice without the death penalty, and there is no justice unless it is administered swiftly.

I have a beard and I ride a bike, but I could never be as evil as this POS.
All the levels of appeals possible today got in there incrementally after something went wrong in another case and it was strongly shown that the authorities really did nab the wrong person. Those persons, now exonerated, frequently go around giving talks to anti death penalty advocacy groups. I see no way modern society would tolerate eliding any of the steps without some reason to believe the accuracy of the process is not lost thereby.

This has to be a mistake. What is the lib media doing running a story about a death penalty case where the victim’s mother is written with sympathy instead of the killer. Oh, that’s right. He’s white. The media is usually okay with executing whites.

So sad to see this mother go thru all this with her daughter being murdered....but kudos to her for pursuing the execution of her daughter’s murderer
So many people who are victims of crime get weak when it comes to the punishment of the perp. So often these days “Criminal Rights” seems to trump justice
Every capital felon should be executed. An executed felon commits zero crimes...the rate of recidivism is ZERO.
This mother is doing a good thing for her daughter, and, for society.
I would want to watch, too. Only I’d demand that the killer be able to clearly see me grinning at him like a hyena as he dies.

It truly is a good thing for the little girl’s family to get the closure they deserve.
What they didn’t deserve was having to wait 22 years for closure.

I don't care if it's a deterrent or not. It was his punishment for raping and stabbing a 9-year-old girl.
