Why did it take 14 years to execute this monster.

He should have been dead 6 months after his sentence.

I don’t imagine his years in jail have been a picnic but you are right, it shouldn’t have taken so long.

All the levels of appeals possible today got in there incrementally after something went wrong in another case and it was strongly shown that the authorities really did nab the wrong person. Those persons, now exonerated, frequently go around giving talks to anti death penalty advocacy groups. I see no way modern society would tolerate eliding any of the steps without some reason to believe the accuracy of the process is not lost thereby.
