While the pull-up has been used by everyone from middle-school gym teachers to Marine drill instructors to measure fitness, the fact is that many fit people, particularly women, can't do even one. To perform a pull-up, you place your hands on a raised bar using an overhand grip, arms fully extended and feet off the floor. (The same exercise, performed with an underhand grip, is often called a chin-up.) Using the muscles in your arms and back, you pull yourself up until your chin passes the bar. Then the body is lowered until the arms are straight, and the exercise is repeated. The Marines say a male recruit should be able to do at least 3 pull-ups or chin-ups, but women are not required to do them. In school, 14-year-old boys can earn the highest...

First...she wasn’t timed...second, she competed at international level (no training?,random gymnast?). She was competeing at the time...Her coaches were two retired Olympian gymnasts....
I owned a gymnastics facility and we have produced several “Elite” gymnasts...
Thier warm-ups each day would have been termed “record breaking” by your definition.....

Interesting how a simple article has turned into a battle of the sexes with women coming up with all kinds of examples to compensate.
That’s a major portion of gymnast’s routine...they use their arms to lift their body weight repetitively.....Practice 6 bdays a week and 4 hours per day, every day of the year for (except Christmas day and Thanksgiving day) over 10 years when she was 16.
My daughter was a specialist on uneven Bar....
When she competed, her body fat was just about nil.....

Yes, I knew a girl like that. I went backpacking with her once and with a ten pound pack she could not keep up with men carrying eighty pounds.
Second, nevergore's daughter was a level-10 gymnast. It's just where the elite gymnasts are before they entered national or national competitions and become the 'real elites'. I google level-10 gymnastic skills, and it doesn't seem what nevergore said to be exaggerated.

I noticed the same thing when I was a water safety instructor back in the early 60s but it started with the brick on the bottom of the pool at the deep end. Women had few problems, men struggled.

I would LOVE doing the demo- treading water, talking away about how to best support the brick close to your body, holding it with both hands, and explaining the pros and cons of each different kick. Then I would casually place the brick back on the deck and send the first three trainees in. I’d give them a count down and start the stopwatch. At “go!” the muscular guys would grab the brick off the pool deck and sink straight to the bottom! While many of the curvier girls would bob right along and never get their bangs wet. Even the littlest girls still had more buoyancy in their thighs, butt and breasts than an average guy. And it definitely gave us an edge in that one test! :p

Why? Women have a significant higher percentage of FAT body composition. Fat is buoyant. Muscle is dense. Your females floated because they were buoyant corks.

I saw girl once who did 47 pullups. She could actually do more but she was embarrassing us guys and thought better of it.
I only made it to 38 and thought I was hot stuff as I bested the other guys.
Here and there there are special police or firefighter or military tasks that women are more suited for (e.g., certain undercover or small-space tasks), but for the vast bulk of assignments you are absolutely correct.
On the other hand, how many fat, middle-aged policemen do we see who couldn’t or wouldn’t run down a criminal for anything?
Most of our jobs that require such physical strength should of course be held by men. But rather than give them early retirement in the forties or fifties, when their physical powers fade, if they haven’t been promoted up into management they should be given extensive retraining for second careers.
Chin ups I could do in my more vital youth, a fair number of them.
I could never handle much weight in a bench prtess, either.
I could do as much as any of the other lads could (weight-wise and stamina-wise) regarding any normal lifting requirement. I hit for average with relatively few home runs. Also, lack of great speed pushed me more toward the middle of the offensive line in football, although I could pass a football (and throw a baseball) with the same or better end result than most of the other lads.
I believe there was something about the way my arm and back muscles grew that made these "over hand" efforts more difficult.
For that matter, I found the lasses with the same percent of body fat as the really lean lads to be less attractive than the lasses populationg the more normal ranges. My wife belonged in the more "normal" subset, although she was quite athletic. Such is life.
Pull ups are not needed to be in the kitchen cooking.
