Why Women Can’t Do Pull-Ups

While the pull-up has been used by everyone from middle-school gym teachers to Marine drill instructors to measure fitness, the fact is that many fit people, particularly women, can't do even one. To perform a pull-up, you place your hands on a raised bar using an overhand grip, arms fully extended and feet off the floor. (The same exercise, performed with an underhand grip, is often called a chin-up.) Using the muscles in your arms and back, you pull yourself up until your chin passes the bar. Then the body is lowered until the arms are straight, and the exercise is repeated. The Marines say a male recruit should be able to do at least 3 pull-ups or chin-ups, but women are not required to do them. In school, 14-year-old boys can earn the highest...

I could do pull ups when I was a 14 year old girl, many moons ago, but chin ups were easier.

Congress needs to pass a law making pull-ups illegal because it discriminates against Wymyn. Just another example of Nature's “War on Women” /sarc

The female body is the perfect design for conservation of resources intended to provide the most efficacious physiological conditions for reproduction.

Political Correctness force people to fear confirming these biological facts and thus enabling the deaths of untold numbers (or should I say “unreported?”) from emergency situations that demand upper body strength to address—situations firemen, policemen and male soldiers are best equipped to address.

If you cannot do at least several pull-ups you are too handicapped to rescue heavy bodies from fires, subdue and arrest aggressive criminals or survive hand to hand combat (there are,of course, very very very few exceptions).

Sexual political correctness is a benighted biological premise that makes people rise to a fantasy potential with deadly results.

Funny story....

Some background....My middle daughter was a Level 10 gymnast when she was 12 and colleges were watching her then for their NCAA programs....She was going “Elite” which is Olympic level when she turned 15 but we decided against it....

Fast forward to when she was 16, she is drop dead gourgeous, the kind of girl guys just stop whatever they’re doing and stare at....

At the same time, my oldest daughter is a Zoomie at the Air Force Academy and we fly out to visit her as a family. She takes us on a tour of the Academy grounds and buildings when we stop by the gym. As we look around, we notice one of the areas has a series of chin-up bars with were occupied by about 20 guys working out.

All of them stopped for a moment when they saw my middle daughter and stared, then they started grunting out mutliple pullups as too “impress”

My older daughter (the Zoomie) immediately noticed this and since she knew several of them called out a following challenge; “ I bet my little sister can beat all of you in pull-ups” Needless to say they took the challenge and the best of them banged out 22 pull-ups. They felt secure in their masculinity and ability.

My middle daughter then jumped up and grabbed the bar. She quickly did 15 chin-ups with perfect form then pretended to struggle to reach 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, then she hung there for a second to tease them and quickly went to 21, 22, 23....until she hit 40. At that point she put her legs in a full pike position and continued to 50 when she quit. She appeared to be able to do many more had she wanted to...

I’ve never seen such a collective group of dejected boys.....LOL

My sister is 50 years old and still runs an annual ~170 mile super-marathon that takes multiple days to complete.

It’s amazing what people can do. Though she still can’t do a pull-up: she doesn’t have the upper body strength.

50 pull-ups? That is incredible. I can do about 15 when I’m in tip top shape.

Good points!

On a side note, when I was training lifeguards for the Red Cross in college one of the trials was to tread water for 5 minutes while holding a 10 pound rubber coated brick. I would LOVE doing the demo- treading water, talking away about how to best support the brick close to your body, holding it with both hands, and explaining the pros and cons of each different kick. Then I would casually place the brick back on the deck and send the first three trainees in.

I'd give them a count down and start the stopwatch. At "go!" the muscular guys would grab the brick off the pool deck and sink straight to the bottom! While many of the curvier girls would bob right along and never get their bangs wet. Even the littlest girls still had more buoyancy in their thighs, butt and breasts than an average guy. And it definitely gave us an edge in that one test! :p

I spent most of those days retrieving bricks off of the bottom of the pool. But it was good fun, and almost everyone we taught was smart enough to let the brick go if they got into trouble.

Not only can we hold a baby on our hips, we can do it while also stirring a pot of food cooking on the stove, mentally putting together a grocery list, talking on the phone and corralling a toddler who is creating mayhem.

Yeah!

And don’t forget that said toddler is hanging ON to your pants legs all the while...AND then, let’s not EVEN go into the dog prancing around the room!

It is quite "incredible". In fact, it's likely BS. Alicia Weber's world record is 39 pull-ups in the one-minute category. For the 3-min category, Alicia's world record back in 2008 was 57 (but she has since increased it).

(Ms Weber owns every pull-up record on the books in the women's categories, up until you get into the 6-hours (or more) categories.)

Maybe this random former gymnast unknowingly set a world record without any training or trying... or maybe a proud dad is boasting a bit much.

Feminists think taking into account the physical differences between the sexes discriminates against women.

They fail to grasp the overwhelming empirically proved reality that nature herself has long since determined the actual worth of each sex...

...during deer hunting season there are but a few “doe” days while every day is “buck” day.
