MILLER: Paul Ryan's guns
washingtontimes.com ^ | 30 October, 2012 | Emily Miller

Paul Ryan has become the most high-profile gun owner in the nation this year. The Republican vice presidential candidate is known as an avid hunter, but what's less known is that he exercises his right to own a handgun for self protection.

This is a new feature exploring the firearms owned by high-profile individuals. The series will be a fun way for gun owners to learn about the specific makes and models and their intended use.

Hopefully, these stories will dispel the myth perpetuated by gun grabbers that owning more than one gun is a sign a person is a danger to society. On the contrary, gun owners are thousands of times more likely to use their weapon to prevent a crime than to commit one.

Mark Olcott is Paul Ryan’s brother-in-law, good friend and frequent hunting buddy. Mr. Olcott is married to the former Molly Little, who is Janna Little Ryan’s younger sister. “Paul would agree with me. We both married up,” Mr. Olcott said in an interview Friday before he went bowhunting for deer near his home in Frederick, Md. “Our wives are just incredible people. We’re lucky men.”

Mr. Olcott said the Wisconsin congressman got him interested in hunting. “When we met nine years ago, one of Paul’s first questions to me was whether I had a problem with him hunting, since I’m a veterinarian,” he explained “I said, ‘No, I’d be interested to learn more about it.’ And I’ve been hooked every since.”

I doubt that this is a comprehensive list. Nearly everyone has a .22 or two.

It’s great that Ryan is an avid hunter and gun owner, but what type of and how many guns he owns is not for Olcott to be disclosing to a reporter, IMHO.

I’m surprised the reporter didn’t just declare every one to be AK-47s.

Lessee...

What you need is a target gun, a bird gun, a goose gun, a varmint gun, a deer gun, a concealed carry gun, an open carry gun...

You are a victim of the same horrible disease from which I suffer—Malignant Gun Proliferation. Mine, of course, as with many other unfortunate FReepers, is in temporary remission due to that HORRIBLE BOATING ACCIDENT, suffered in late November 2008, where I lost most of them.

Glock? For the love of John Moses Browning... Why? Gaston's little toys are the "Smart Cars" of the firearms world.

At least upgrade to an XD if you MUST have a polymer toy... ;-)

...bought his son, Aidan, a Remington 700 .243 youth rifle with a scope. Mr Ryan brought the same gun for 10-year old daughter Liza last year for Christmas.

Yup, Ryan's the real deal. Thoughtful choice.

I happen to like Glocks.

Call me stupid but I have never had one jam, and I have owned my share of handguns incl 1911s but I tend to go back to Glocks or revolvers when it comes to carry or home defense. To give me time to get to the 12 ga of course.

You may have been kidding, but I had to respond to the “toy” and “smart car” reference. A smart car will get you killed on the road. When a .40 or .45 slug is coming at you you probably wont be comforted if you see it came from a Glock.

I realize that Browning was a genius (the .50 BMG/deuce is a work of art), but just sayin’ -

Gaston's little toys are the "Smart Cars" of the firearms world.

Opinions certainly vary.

I wouldn't slap a wet dog with an XD and I'd slap a wet dog with almost anything.

This gives me an idea. I wonder if someone could market a “green gun” and “green ammo” to liberals? The gun itself might be made of recycled plastic and glass, and the cartridges of recycled cardboard. Instead of using propellant that creates greenhouse gases, the organically grown tofu bullets would be propelled by solar panels.
