At least 25 people have died and 30 others were hurt in a fire at a wedding in eastern Saudi Arabia, officials say.
Hundreds were inside the courtyard of a home in the village of Ain Badr, in the Abqaiq region, when the blaze began.
A high-voltage power line reportedly fell down and sent sparks flying after it was hit by celebratory gunfire.

Those Neanderthals really know how to party hardy. It would be a very boring wedding without killing a few of your guests. It will give them something to fondly reminisce about for years. “Say, do you remember how Uncle Mohammed soiled his robe when that live wire hit him?”
That headline is wrong.

Quite easily if a high voltage line came down on earth with the right conductivity and soil moisture.
When a high voltage line drops on the ground, it doesn’t have a very good path to electrical “ground,” despite being on the physical ground. As a result, there’s a surrounding area of electrically conductive ground as the voltage radiates outwards, trying to find ground potential.
If you spread your legs apart (as when you’re walking), you’re going to receive a pretty good shock under some conditions. If you fall over, you’re likely to receive an even bigger shock, as the length of your body is longer than your stride. As you increase the distance between where your body contacts the charged soil surface, you increase the voltage across your body.
This same issue of voltage potential at horizontally divergent points on the ground happens during lightening strikes on the ground. There are many recorded instances of a bolt hitting a pasture where cattle are grazing, and cattle dying for 50+ yards in all directions. They’re electrocuted instantly through their hooves.
Essential moral of the story:
For civilized people: Don’t get close to downed power lines, even at a local level (eg, the lines up on the pole outside your house) Stay the heck away. If they’re the really high voltage lines (69kV and up), stay way the heck away.
For Muslim savages: Go ahead, shoot down some more power lines. See how long it takes you to discover what we infidels have known for 100+ years...
Maybe rice or confetti is the better choice....
