Bassett Hound Set on Fire Dies

A 3-year-old basset hound named Buddy has died after being deliberately set on fire in a ravine outside Camarillo, authorities said Tuesday.

A neighbor in Camarillo Heights spotted a small blaze about 3:20 a.m. Saturday and called the Ventura County Fire Department. When firefighters arrived, they found Buddy severely burned.

Arson investigators discovered evidence that someone had poured lighter fluid on the dog, according to a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

No arrests have been made. Buddy's owner, who was interviewed by investigators, was not identified.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

I wish I knew who did it.

That thousand bucks would come in handy for the abused dog I’m trying to -save-.

Evil, soulless bastards.

I hope they burn.

Unfortunately the animal rights nutbags will use stories like this to further their agenda. This election day they are trying to get a law passed here in North Dakota to make it a FELONY to be cruel to an animal. Lighting a dog on fire? Sure, I’d put away someone for that; mostly because that’s an indicator that they are the next Jeffrey Dahmer. But a FELONY for putting your own dog down or kicking a cat... sorry, I just can’t follow that.

I would like to find the shithead who did it but I wouldn’t seek the reward. It wouldn’t be prudent after I spent all that time burying the evidence.

‘Tis the season.

Tonight [and probably already, due to the full moon] thousands of animals will be tortured and killed for the pagan “holiday’.

And this is just one of many [usually 8] ‘holidays’ when it happens.

If you have a black cat or dog or a Germanic breed of dog, _keep it inside_ starting 2 weeks before Halloween until it’s over.

There should be a special place in hell for people and I hate to use that term loosly for those that harm animals for the sheer joy of it.

Well, before they reach hell there should be mandatory lobotomies for anyone doing such a heinous thing. So, instead of vicious little cretins we would have quiet little zombies.

How incredibly cruel.

I own a Bassett Hound, got her in March as a puppy. I cannot believe what a wonderful, happy, funny dog they are. She clearly exemplifies why a dog is man’s best friend.

To think that someone would do something so wicked and evil just makes me sick.

This is "Honey". My wife rescued this little girl. We aren't sure of her breed or background. She is a sweetheart and has been a fine fit with our other 5 pups.

I never let my animals outside unattended anymore. It’s just common sense these days. My neighbor is as likely to be Jeffery Dahmer as he is to be Wally Cleaver. In my last neighborhood there was a rash of dog poisonings. Of course no one was ever caught. They never are.

The same awful horror.

Horse probably survived because he is bigger. Takes a bit more everything else being the same.

Why Germanic dogs? I hear about poor black cats all the time but Germanic dogs?

My guess is Dachshund/Beagle. Based on this pix. Or Fox Terrier or Jack Russell in there instead of or additional to Beagle.

Don’t put people in the same category with animals. Anyone who could do this to an animal is a psychopath, with no feelings of remorse or loss.

That does NOT fit into the animal genus/species/phyla. (And don’t beat me up...it’s been a long time since my high school biology classes!)

Dogs are just little furry, dumb animals, who can’t tell you where they hurt or how they have been abused.

But God will separate the chaff from the wheat when it is Time.

Oh, so sorry!!

My neighbor who just lost her Bassett “Beethoven” told me there is a deadly cancer gene in the Bassett line.

She just adopted “Wilson” from a Bassett rescue, 19 months old and a Beagle/Bassett mix. She’s hoping the cancer gene isn’t in Wilson.

He’s a wonderful, playful dog with soft, beautiful fur. Gorgeous.

Lymphoma is what we are seeing. All but the pup have been rescues; we so wanted the experience of the whole life. Bassets are surprisingly soft. So many people petting ours for the first time are quite impressed with how soft they are.

For a lot of reasons.

Having dealt with it a long time ago in my rescue years, I really don’t want to talk about it, especially with what I’m going through with my puppy.

Please just keep any Germanic breeds inside.
