NY Subway May Take Weeks to Restore Service; Stunning Flood and Fire Images

Hurricane Sandy has moved on but the damage remains. The following picture of Times Square posted on Gizmodo caught my eye. Fortunately, it does not look real. Lights should not be on and there would be debris everywhere.

However, the Metra chairman did say water was "literally up to the ceiling" at one downtown station, so take this image and use your imagination, adding dead rats, debris, and whatever else suits your fancy.

The initial estimates I heard was that the system would be up and running in 3 to 5 days. I thought yeah right, 3 to 5 months is more likely.

My thoughts exactly. From what I know of fluorescent lighting, they can’t. I think the pic is faked.

That picture is fake. The flooding did not reach Times Sq subway stations. It flooded Lower Man subway stations around the Battery where the sea surged over bulkheads.

My guess is parts of the subway system will be restored over next weeks, full system service will be months away.
