Posted on 11/01/2012 4:32:20 AM PDT by rellimpank
Lawmakers should craft legislation to close a loophole in guns laws through which unlicensed sellers can peddle weapons to buyers without background checks.
Had such a law been in place, it might have kept kept a gun out of the hands of Radcliffe Haughton and saved the lives of three women at the Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield.
Yes, it seems apparent now that Haughton was bent on killing his estranged wife. And he may well have found another way to get a gun. But that doesn't mean that such legislation would not keep guns out of the hands of others who buy them every year without undergoing a background check.
The proposal was resurrected by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and is supported by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, an advocacy group based in Washington, D.C.
About 40% of all legal gun sales in the nation require no background check, which is an open floodgate through which thousands of weapons flow to criminals, people with mental illness and domestic abusers. Radcliffe was subject of a restraining order and had been ordered to turn over his guns to authorities days before his shooting rampage. Radcliffe's wife, Zina, was granted a four-year restraining order against her husband because she said she feared for her life. She died along with two others; four were hurt in the mass shooting on Oct. 21.

Macbeth was a pain to read, but I’m sure the Bard would have approved of the 2nd Amendment, given the amount of righteous violence in his plays.
This will be a good thread.
It’s not a loophole, nitwits.
—my apologies to all the Shakespeare fans—already asked the moderator to fix it-—
Banning private individuals from selling their goods is unconstitutional.
But that has never stopped the Left from coming out with idiotic proposals like this one.
There is nothing that needs to be fixed and people who want to kill someone - they sure as heck aren’t going to allow another gun control law to stand in their way.
Disarming people doesn’t save lives.
Maybe should have been barf?
Frankly, I like singing minstrels. Especially in the frozen land of Nador, where they come in handy...
Milwaukee Mayor Barrett resurrects proposal to close “loophole” in gun law
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Statist goons hate private gun sales like the devil hates Holy Water.
First, it is a mistake not discovered until later inspection and properly "closing" it really demands you unravel the thing and re-do that loop.
If there is a political "loophole" it is because someone deems something was inproperly done before, even after inspection.
Using the word "loophole" is a devious thought pattern.
The Brady bunch is nothing more than an anti Civil Rights hate group. Anyone associating with them might at well associate with Nazi’s or the KKK.
No, keep the Bard Alert, the responses are bound to be both entertaining and educational. It could be Hugh and Series!!!
I can’t believe you’d say something like that. I’m stuned!
Agreed and Republicans are as bad as the rest in using the term.
Substitute ‘remaining freedom they haven’t stamped out’ and the picture changes quickly.
Confucius say, “man who has gun has advantage over man who shakes spear.”
You need a handgun permit or CC permit in NC to do a private handgun sale or any sort of private transfer like inheriting or gifts.
Been that way since Brady, I believe. It’s actually quite restrictive. You have to pay a fee and get a background check for the permit, then you have to take the permit to the dealer, where you get another background check for the purchase.
If you have a CC permit, that takes the place of the purchase permit.
A loophole is also a small window in a wall, used to shoot arrows or bullets through. Closing it prevents the enemy from doing the same.
This can become another FR legend, like Stuned Beebers.
Note that this NC purchase permit is strictly useless paperwork. No serial numbers or anything are associated with the purchase permit. There is no association of any handgun with the permit. It’s strictly a useless extra fee and extra background check.
Basically, you go to your sheriff and pay a fee, and in a few days he gives you a piece of paper that says it’s okay for you to receive a handgun from someone in NC. You then take that piece of paper to your dealer, or whoever is transferring the firearm to you.
Of late, I've been acutely aware of language and how we use it ... not trying to get into a pissing match, just pointing out the obvious.
In the store, the clerk says, "That'll be $29.95" and I ask,
"OK, but what is it now?"
The machine asks; "Is $29.95 OK?", and I counter,
"How would I know?"
I actually hope the mods don’t change the title! :) It’s nice. Although—what was this thread about again? LOL. :)
“I’m William Shakespeare and I approved this message.” :)
Thanks for posting this.
[Blackadder punches Shakespeare]
Blackadder: "That is for every schoolboy and schoolgirl for the next 400 years! Have you any idea how much suffering you're going to cause? Hours spent at school desks trying to find ONE joke in "A Midsummer's Night Dream", wearing stupid tights in school plays and saying things like, "What ho, my Lord," and, "Oh, look, here comes Othello talking total crap as usual."
Blackadder: And THAT is for Ken Branagh's endless, four-hour version of Hamlet.
William Shakespeare: Who's Ken Branagh?
Blackadder: I'll tell him you said that, and I think he'll be rather hurt...
thanks for that early a.m. LOL from Blackadder...

LOLOL! Literally. I am cracking up; if my kids weren’t at school they’d be asking me why I’m laughing. :) (btw, I agree with you, T-Bird45!)
This reminds me of a hunting question thread a few years back; it was hysterical. Unfortunately, the name of the Freeper who posted it escapes me now, so I can’t ping him. Sometimes these threads are the most fun of all. In fact, I believe “hugh and series” may have originated from that thread.
It reminds me of the election when Kerry ran—there were so many times when I had tears running down my eyes from laughing, with his goofy pictures and very funny comments following them. :)
Yup, needs to be linked to the Friday silliness thread tomorrow.
Sorry, liberal twits, the “loophole” doesn’t exist and it’s always been a weak argument anyway. But, rave if you must.....
(Hey, it could have been worse. It could have been "bawd alert"...then we'd have Lazamataz all over it.)
—at least I didn’t enter “banglsit” as a key word as I did about a year ago-—
LOL! Seriously. :) Now I remember that quirky thread—it was from al baby. :)
Anyway... the title has been fixed. :) But thanks for the giggles, everyone. :)
It is almost as fun as watching Soledad O’Brien reporting on Romney’s poll numbers, as I was just doing. ;)
Real unlicensed “peddlers” would be getting raided by the BATF.
“Yup, needs to be linked to the Friday silliness thread tomorrow.”
If it is, please ping me to that thread! :)
“Confucius say, man who has gun has advantage over man who shakes spear.
At the risk of getting into trouble—perhaps tomorrow on the silliness thread, someone could post a pic of Indiana Jones shooting the guy with the knife. :)
Okay, I’m sorry moderators; it’s been a difficult week and this has been fun. I’ll back away from the thread now. :)
“Confucius say, man who has gun has advantage over man who shakes spear’”.
Confucius say, “woman who thinks way to man’s heart through his stomach has sights set too high.”
Shakespeare wath here.
Confucius say, “Man who walk in middle of road get hit by trucks going both ways.”
Confucius say, woman who thinks way to mans heart through his stomach misses the fact that the quickest way to a man's heart is to rip directly through his ribcage with powerful metal-hard jaws, like that Alien in the movie from the same name, which had the extra pair of pneumatically powered jaws on an extendable retractable limb. The Alien also had acid for blood. How do you kill something like that? This thing nearly killed Ripley, who was portrayed by Signorney Weaver. Weaver went on to play in the movie Imaginary Heros, and in this film, which explores the problems encountered by a family after a suicide, was certainly a stellar performance on her part and the gold standard to whihc all actresses now aspire. Though, it is said, even that this may have been her tour-de-force, it still does not mean she knows the proper way to apply a tourniquet and may cause gangrene. While having a gangrenous leg is useful to escape being noticed by zombies (by smell) it is still not that healthy, and may cause you to die. Since everyone is now infected with the zombie virus, you will certainly turn into a zombie yourself, which means if I head-shoot you, I get 50 points and am that much closer to level 12, where I qualify for the RPG launcher, though I'm not sure I have enough QuotaBux to buy one."
Yes, Confucious really said that.
There are over 600,000 REGISTERED hunters in Wisconsin. Last year- 2011 to 2012 hunting season, there was not one single fatality from hunting.
It isn’t the guns—it is the crazies.
The liberals think everyone can be re-habbed...
Some cannot. It is like dealing with a deaf rattlesnake.
Especially in the cases of domestic violence. The judicial system as a whole has to take domestic violence much more seriously.
OTOH—Women need to be sure they don’t say their spouse did something that they did not do. It keeps everyone guessing & does not help those like this lady who truly needed help.
