WaPo: CIA rushed to save diplomats as Libya attack was underway
Washington Post ^ | November 1, 2012 | Greg Miller

Posted on 11/01/2012 4:23:39 PM PDT by maggief

The CIA rushed security operatives to an American diplomatic compound in Libya within 25 minutes after it had come under attack and played a more central role in the effort to fend off a night-long siege than has been publicly acknowledged, U.S. intelligence officials said Thursday.

The agency mobilized the evacuation effort, took control of an unarmed U.S. military drone to map possible escape routes, dispatched an emergency security team from Tripoli, the capital, and chartered aircraft that ultimately carried surviving U.S. personnel to safety on Sept. 12, U.S. officials said.

The account, which was provided to news organizations Thursday by senior U.S. intelligence officials, is the most detailed chronology presented so far of an attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, including two CIA security officers. The attack has become a flash point in the U.S. presidential campaign.

There’s almost nothing new in this.

We already knew 8 were sent from Tripoli. Now it’s confirmed they were mostly CIA and we’re told a little bit more on what they were doing.

But nothing of note in the big questions that continue to be asked.

So Bammy and the others in the WH Situation Room were saying, “Oh, it's just a CIA problem, let the CIA handle it”?
If the CIA could rush assets to the scene, who may or may not have been disobeying orders to stand down, why wasn't the military also rushing guys to the scene?

Sure, these ex-Seals are tough hombres, but they don't have the equipment of the active duty special forces guys. And if you've got a hundred jihadis with RPGs, don't you think you may need more than a couple ex-Seals?

Why would they wait so long to report this?

Well, I don't know for sure. But, based on years and years of being BSed by the Washington Post, I'd expect that it took time for the editorial staff to examine the available facts and invent a plausible, difficult-to-contradict story that would help control the political damage to the Democrat administration.

The important pertinent information is in the article. The US forces in Libya had no interference from Washington. Washington watched and did nothing.

The problem is that the help that was sent was inadequate and ill timed. The CIA appeared to be running the show. Doherty was sent to his death from Tripoli. We failed to get the host government involved. They should have sent relief to the annex immediately and not arrive six hours later. I am so angry I can spit nails. I hope this information takes this bastard down. Pure incompetence by Obama and Hillary.

Yes.....more misdeirection. We already knew this stuff. It has already been reported that a small team was sent and then could not get a ride or round up Libyan help. This WP story is BS filler and of no use what so ever.

We need to demand to see Obama’s official orders from that night. For those of you on twitter, please use the hash tag #showustheorders on your tweets about all stories on Benghazi.

Are you fing nuts? The revelations here are going to blow up the WH. Anyone with knowledge of how the USG is supposed to respond to such incidents will be horrified. This is a huge bombshell. Watch what happens tomorrow.

Funny you should speak of the Pueblo Sarge. I was researching that today because of something I found out I thought was very strange.

I will let you all know more as I go along on this. But apparently we don’t want the ship back all that bad. I was just wondering why not?

So they could send a barely adequate rescue force 410 miles from Tripoli but the major response forces in Sigonella 470 miles away couldn’t be mustered.

All that rushing to and from ... taking charge of this and that ... personnel here and personnel there . . . drones and airplanes ... trucks and busses ... commands for this demands for that ...

... and then, the music stopped, and everyone sat down.

Usually you don’t want to make enemies unnecessarily, but THEN we have THIS Prez. This Prez decided to make the following enemies RIGHT before his one and only time to be re-elected:

1. The Navy SEALs

2. The CIA

How STUPID do you have to be in order to do THAT...? This guy is a freaking RETARD. They say he did barely ANYTHING while he chared Law Review at Harvard and they also said that when he was, “Constitutional Law Professor”.

The CIA sent eight brave men in to the breach from Tripoli on a chartered plane because no one in Washington would do a damned thing to save our people in Benghazi. Amazing...

They should have sent in the NCIS guys. Everyone knows the USA can’t exist in freedom and security without them.

They can take out entire squadrons of terrorists and look great the whole time!
