The choice (Krauthammer)
Washington Post ^

“Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not.” That was Barack Obama in 2008. And he was right. Reagan was an ideological inflection point, ending a 50-year liberal ascendancy and beginning a 30-year conservative ascendancy.

It is common for one party to take control and enact its ideological agenda. Ascendancy, however, occurs only when the opposition inevitably regains power and then proceeds to accept the basic premises of the preceding revolution.

Thus, Republicans railed for 20 years against the New Deal. Yet when they regained the White House in 1953, they kept the New Deal intact.

And when Nixon followed LBJ’s Great Society — liberalism’s second wave — he didn’t repeal it. He actually expanded it. Nixon created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), gave teeth to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and institutionalized affirmative action — major adornments of contemporary liberalism.

From the article ....

"Obama’s intention has always been .... to be the anti-Reagan ... in three areas: health care, education and energy ... He enacted liberalism’s holy grail: the nationalization of health care. His $830 billion stimulus, by far the largest spending bill in U.S. history, massively injected government into the free market — lavishing immense amounts of tax dollars on favored companies and industries in a naked display of industrial policy."

"And what Obama failed to pass through Congress, he enacted unilaterally by executive action."

Please America. Serve this unconstitutional, un-American, pathological liar his eviction notice on Tuesday!

Among his other magnificent achievements, because of his intelligence, wisdom, benevolence, and excellent leadership, Ronald Reagan PEACEFULLY ended the Cold War.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that peace is the prerogative of the victor--not the vanquished--(thank you, Winston Churchill) and of the strong not the weak, but Ronald Reagan brought that wisdom to those who lacked the wit to understand it by skillfully circumnavigatiing them.

Well, the liberals don’t think the ending of the cold war matters. They think that we had a false fear of communism, and that the Soviet Union was not really a threat to world peace.

And, the liberals wailed that the end of the cold war didn’t give them their peace dividend, which they expected to spend on education and health care and other liberal causes.

You're right, of course.

The Leftist Dream is a totalitarian government that would establish and enforce their agenda. That it be brutal and iron-fisted is desirable to their perverse way of thinking.

Which is why even in the face of a landslide defeat, the dems will privately be smirking. We NEED the Senate (and some gonads).

Underlines mine. That is why I have no faith in Romney & Crew and the GOP-E in particular. There will be a collective sigh of relief and a burst of economic recovery when he is elected, but, Fearless Forecast, obamacare will NOT be rescinded nor will many/any of his edicts be rolled back.

Mark Steyn nailed it when he said the US Republicans are like Europe's "conservatives" - when they get in power, they never undo the Socialist programs, just claim they can make them work better.

Lets see how long it takes for people to start griping about the same thing after January 2013.
