SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) -
The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they could not help out in New Jersey unless they affiliated with a union.
A six man crew from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.
The general manager of Decatur Utilities, Ray Hardin told Fox Business they were presented documents from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers at a staging area in Virginia. The documents stated they had to affiliate with a union to work, which the crews could not agree to.
Hardin said the crews were not turned away but were made to believe that affiliating with the union was a requirement to work.
As they waited for confirmation on the documents, crews received word that Seaside Heights had received the assistance they needed from other sources.
They attempted to look for work in other areas but because a resolution could not be reached, they made the decision late Thursday night to return home.
Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."
Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are in Long Island, New York working.
Joe Wheeler EMC said they did not respond to New Jersey, but did go up to Maryland and headed home once they were done.
To the Jersey union thugs, this is nothing more than a business opportunity.
“party of the workin man”. yep, uh-huh.
They should go to West Virginia.
Has everyone forgotten West Virginia?
The media has ignored them, surprised?
If they have no gas, let them burn union dues
We love our boys down here. They got us up and running WAAAAY ahead of schedule after the tornadoes a couple of years ago. Worked around the clock to do it. I’m sorry they were turned away. They would have been really useful. Our hearts and prayers are still with everyone up there who are suffering.
West Virginia is a dogwhistle code word for “white people”.
They are so screwed.
I imagine, 48 hours in, someone found God after realizing that you can’t fill that void with free contraception.
Then they discovered that Government will leave you to die so that they can focus on a marathon.
Helluva wake-up call.
Especially when you’re hungry, cold, and sh$%$ting in your own hallway.
bunch of spoiled rotten union people!
Thank God, I live in a “Right to Work” State, Georgia!
This is bigger than union versus non union. When you
choose to live a life that makes you rely on government,
In major catastrophies this is what happens. Fact is there aren’t
Enough people and resources to deal with All the need.
Never let a crisis go to waste. Work goes to the collectives of the red-tape-brigade.
Just watched Fox news and “authorities” in NJ are telling them that this is wrong that the crews were turned away because they were not needed. Fox asked for clarification in light of the conflicting stories by the Decatur people and the “authorities”. Fox were told that the “authorities” were still developing an answer.
Come on... LIES by the “authorities”. They know what is good for them. Don’t buck the unions and the mob.
The non-unions are more productive and would have made the “brothers” look bad/worse.
This is all par for the New Jerseyite mindset.
I say let them fester in their own excrement, debris and sorrow. People so arrogant as to refuse aid should not be offered any help.
