Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy.
United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.
"Citizens began throwing things at the crews," Michael West, a spokesman for United Illuminating, told FoxNews.com. "It started to get pretty hairy. They did not feel safe."
West said it started with verbal abuse and escalated.
"We communicated with the city and said if you dont provide police support, we can't have our crews there in harm's way," he said.

I hope at the very least they had the sense to throw rotten eggs.
I really hope they weren't stupid enough to through away good food.
Seeing as how they're already stupid enough to chase away people trying to help I'm not really that hopeful.
Ever been to Bilgeport?
It's a great place......if you're a bullet.
probably the same people that riot and burn their own neighborhood down.
And angering the Utility crew gets your power on faster........how?
What a bunch of whiny, stupid, selfish, thuggish idiots! Taht’ll show em, huh! That’ll get your lights on quicker...pelt the power crews who sho up to restore your power. Sheesh! What a bunch of a-holes.
Quarantine the place until they are ready to join civilised society again?
Hell I would leave and go back to my state...these politicians are fools..I live in Florida and this only happens where the welfare people live.....People down here were feeding the people helping coffee and doughnuts
Their beef is that those rich white folk in nicer areas are getting their power on and Bridgeport isn’t.
Bridgeport is a cesspit, with extensive black slums filled with people who have little to do but collect welfare, sell drugs, and mug people.
I’ll bet these were Obama’s sons, doing their thing.
Let 'em freeze in the dark!
Let me guess. The mayor is a Dumbocrat!?!
...that place with Hizzoner Mayor Dumb@$$... ??
Crabs in a bucket.
They’re supposedly starving and without power so first thing they do is throw eggs at the utility workers. These morons voted for Obama, right?
“Quarantine the place until they are ready to join civilised society again?”.
Too expensive. Just give everybody a supplemental EBT re-up and they’ll all head for Foxwoods. Then they can fix the place up while they’re gone giving the taxpayer’s money to the Indians. Probably cheaper in the long run.
When the dust settles in a few weeks....
... we can interview the survivors and see if anyone there is ready to re-join a civil and polite society...
Such an odd reaction. Down here utility workers from out of state are given free meals at restaurants all over the place.........I guess it’s a yankee thing I wouldn’t understand.......
