Utility workers pelted with eggs after Bridgeport, Conn. mayor blasts provider

Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy.

United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.

"Citizens began throwing things at the crews," Michael West, a spokesman for United Illuminating, told FoxNews.com. "It started to get pretty hairy. They did not feel safe."

West said it started with verbal abuse and escalated.

"We communicated with the city and said if you don’t provide police support, we can't have our crews there in harm's way," he said.

It's really stupid to chase away people trying to help.

I hope at the very least they had the sense to throw rotten eggs.

I really hope they weren't stupid enough to through away good food.

Seeing as how they're already stupid enough to chase away people trying to help I'm not really that hopeful.

Their beef is that those rich white folk in nicer areas are getting their power on and Bridgeport isn’t.

Bridgeport is a cesspit, with extensive black slums filled with people who have little to do but collect welfare, sell drugs, and mug people.

I’ll bet these were Obama’s sons, doing their thing.

They’re supposedly starving and without power so first thing they do is throw eggs at the utility workers. These morons voted for Obama, right?

“Quarantine the place until they are ready to join civilised society again?”.

Too expensive. Just give everybody a supplemental EBT re-up and they’ll all head for Foxwoods. Then they can fix the place up while they’re gone giving the taxpayer’s money to the Indians. Probably cheaper in the long run.

So not only is the mantra that we have to ask the wealthiest to pay more, but they should also expect to go to the back of the line for services in favor of whom?

Put a triple-layer of razor wire concertina around the joint...

When the dust settles in a few weeks....
... we can interview the survivors and see if anyone there is ready to re-join a civil and polite society...

Such an odd reaction. Down here utility workers from out of state are given free meals at restaurants all over the place.........I guess it’s a yankee thing I wouldn’t understand.......

Finch was elected Mayor of Bridgeport in November 2007. During his first year as mayor, Finch focused on professionalizing city government, aiming to stabilize the city’s finances, and signing his first Executive Order to Promote Sustainability in Bridgeport.

Finch is known for being a conservationist and advocate for programs, legislation and organizations that promote green living and green business in the state of Connecticut. In his first year in office, Finch signed up for the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund’s Clean Energy Communities Program. He also signed an Executive Order to promote sustainability in Bridgeport.

Upon signing this order, he assembled a team of 100 volunteers who worked for 18 months to compile the BGreen2020 initiative, which served as a “Greenprint” for the City’s overall vision and path forward for the “green” economy. Among the programs included in BGreen2020 are: Solar leasing of rooftops, a comprehensive energy plan, increasing recycling rates
