Big Mo: Ryan to MINNESOTA on Sunday
Big Government.com ^ | 2 Nov 2012, 6:56 PDT | by Mike Flynn

This morning, the Romney campaign announced that Paul Ryan would go to Minnesota on Sunday for a pre-election campaign rally. Its a clear sign that the Romney campaign thinks Minnesota is winnable. Where campaigns spend their time in the closing days of a race says much more about their view of the election than words repeated by campaign flacks. Candidates' time is a campaign's most precious resource, and it is deployed only if it's needed or can have an impact. You don't waste a candidate's time on a bluff in the final 48 hours.

Last night, the campaign announced that Mitt Romney would go to Philadelphia on Sunday for a campaign rally. It is telling that both Romney and Ryan are spending some of the campaign's final hours in a bid for states that haven't voted GOP for president in decades.

The Obama campaign has dismissed this as a sign the Romney campaign is "flailing." Yet, they have matched the GOP ads buys in the state and have dispatched Biden and Clinton to Pennsylvania and Minnesota. They have to be at least somewhat concerned that Romney could steal these states from them if they don't respond. That's a tell. So to that end, Obama will spend this weekend doing at least five events in Wisconsin and Iowa, two states he won by double-digits in 2008.

Remember, in the closing days of the 2008, Obama devoted lots of time to states that had traditionally voted Republican. That wasn't a campaign "flailing", but rather one riding a wave of momentum and deep dissatisfaction with the Bush Administration.

We'll know Tuesday if Romney will be able to repeat history.

Romney knows what he is doing, period. You don’t know what he is doing.

I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea what he is doing -- not that any blindly-trusting pollyanna on here does either -- though my guess about trying to replicate 1984 makes as much sense as anything else does about Ryan's pointless visit to the Great White North.

Your first sentence is way open to debate; we shall see just how much Romney "knows what he is doing". I'll be absolutely thrilled to eat a huge helping of crow on Tuesday night in honor of America finally having a real President again, but it's looking like that crow probably won't be necessary.

Look - its not blind optimism or being pollyanishly naive.

Romney’s own polls are telling us things we don’t know. The candidate receives good advice and that’s how he makes day to day decisions.

It looks like a MN win could well happen. They won’t know if its possible until they try. We’ll see what kind of crowd Ryan draws. If its a good sized crowd, it was right decision. If it wasn’t well, then we all have to eat crow.

I’m looking forward to Sunday! Why aren’t you?

But that scheduling works both ways. Bonzo is NOT going to ‘Oiho’ because he thinks he has it sewn up; Romney is having a huge rally there because he’s desperate. Isn’t that just a teeny bit possible? Can anyone truly believe that the Rats have totally conceded Ohio? We can *hope* that’s the way things are, but ‘hope’ means squat.

From outside the campaign there is no way to tell whether a visit means desperation or something else. There is no way to tell whether a NON-visit means confidence or having already given up.

It’s just like the polls: people desperately try to spin them to see their boy doing well and ignore whatever evidence they don’t like.

There may have been one or two people on here back in 2008 who thought that the McCain campaign knew what they were doing, despite all evidence to the contrary.

It’s true that none of us out here actually KNOW anything; but it’s idiotic to assume that the Romney Brain Trust is infallable.

What are you talking about. 0bama was in three different places in OH today:

Romney is on the offensive; 0bama is on the defensive.

I think Obama was in OH 3 times today.

They are both in Oiho because it is still in play for both sides. My point is that while Ohio is the virtually the only game in town for 0bama, Romney is going into other states. Is it because he is desperate, or is it simply because he can? While we all have to tune in Tuesday night to find out, I still think the tell-tale sign is that while Romney is going into what was once thought to be safe 0bama bastions, 0bama is not doing the same.

The short version is right now, 0bama is trying to eke out a win of less than 300 EV.

Ignorance is not flattering, as your posts indicate.

Ryan is FROM the Great White North, Wisconsin specifically. It isn't that difficult to get from Wisconsin, Miss Pollyanna, to Minnesota.

You troll-types really need to educate yourselves on geography.
