NEW YORK The New York Marathon will not be held Sunday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday, backtracking just a few hours after he defended the decision to hold it despite heavy criticism as the city struggles back from Superstorm Sandy.

Well gee - insensitive after all these hours? Just now decided? Like no pre-thinking?????
They finally made the right call afer considering only allowing three runners at a time to partake in the event. Oh, and they were all to wear propellers on their heads to generate green energy. Bunch of imbeciles.
Doomberg is a Liberal, there’s never any thinking involved.
That Napoleon was at his house in the Bahamas when NYC got slammed two winters ago.
Good.... now cancel the NBC - BRUJOVI - Obama Concert disguised as a benefit for the victims of Superstorm Sandy.... all this will do is cause people to flood (no pun intended) into Rock Center and cause the police to be distracted from important work....do the concert in two weeks after a needs assessment can be made and they could do a bigger event.
Bloomberg had a flash of good sense? Who would have thought that was still possible?
“Gutsy call!”
Thank goodness common sense prevailed.
It’s sad that people who didn’t vote for him have to suffer his stupidity. Hopefully next election .....
I agree. I am glad they are having the fund raiser but think you are right that it would be better to hold it at a later date for exactly the reason you gave. The police officers who would be needed for security purposes have so many other things to be doing now. The intentions of those participating are good...but later would be better.
Hannity was really ripping nanny Bloomberg on his radio show.
Maybe someone was listening.
I don’t think their intentions are good one bit.... they are rushing to do this BEFORE the election.... and the “talent”....Bruce, Bon Jovi (who don’t pay property taxes in NJ because of farm loophole) and Christina Agulara... .are ALL Obama surrogates.... no right leaning entertainers invited. This is pure politics ....watch....guarantee Bruce and Jovi-douch get political.
Do you think he could wait a little longer???
If Mayor-For-Life Doomberg lets NYC have another election for a different mayor...
LUCID_MOMENT_PING!
That does not bother me. We can get just as political. I do think their intentions are good. I base that on how Bruce Springsteen, for one, feels about New Jersey. He does love his mother state. Kind of the way Texans feel about Texas. I am sure most feel that way about the state in which they were born. I know..I know...we Texans are not special...still. We do love Texas.
Napoleon Bloomberg caves, dines on crow at Four Seasons....
I KNEW New Yorkers would do the right thing.
Now take back your cigarettes, and soda.
Canceled or Postponed?
Maybe the Kenyans can take Obama back with them.
Sponsors and participants pulled out of the marathon. Bloomers was irrelevant.
About time NY’ers punked his lil tyrant ash. Don’t stop there!
Horseshit! I'll tell you why you're wrong. If a Yankee said something that wrong about his home state like Jersey, they'd call the Sheriff.
As a God fearing Texan, we don't call LEOs. I'm presently assembling a posse to run up I35 to set your mind right, sir.
We Are Different! Learn it and Love it!
Well hope you’re doing okay. So do people in the boroughs vote for mayor or only NYC people?
I’m sure the odds are growing that the NFL will postpone Sunday’s Giants-Steelers game at the Meadowlands, too.
They always do this to try to take the heat off the really awful things they do.
Doomberg is part Al Sharpton; Flavor Flav; Ted turner; and Juan McLaim.. with Lindsey Graham overtones..
Glad to see he woke up to reality. Will it be rescheduled or simply not be run this year?
So a run for the presidency IS in Bloomberg’s future.
Though football is the LAST concern in this mess, why the NFL just doesn’t relocate the game to Heinz Field is beyond me.
LOL...fine. I stand corrected. We ARE special! Bet your boots. If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay under the porch. And I am not a sir, sir. I am a ma’am!
It is funny and ironic that “conservatives” are cheering on one of the most socialistic/populistic outcry since Katrina.
Let me get the logic: there are people who are affected by the hurricane, so stop all activity otherwise that might be “insensitive”. How about you all stop going to restaurants because there are hobos who go to sleep hungry. How about you stop going to the movies because there are unemployed people struggling to make end’s meet. How about you stop going on vacation because it might be insensitive to the poor inner city children who have to live by a crumbling neighborhood.
This insanity has infected conservatives. They have become compassionate conservatives.
You didn’t get the logic. It wasn’t a touchy, feely, compassionate for show issue. It made no sense to devote even one iota of resource to this marathon given the current situation in the metropolitan New York City area.
Too long enough. Nothing as painful for a lib as admitting they were wrong.
Was that Doogle who said it’d be cancelled by later today?
So does each borough have its own mayor? Is Bloomberg just the mayor of NYC?
We’re ALL NYC people, just 5 different flavors.
Okay so Bloomberg is mayor of all the boroughs too?
Each borough has its own President and City Council Representatives. They don’t have much power, but they do have influence (it is New York after all).
” It made no sense to devote even one iota of resource to this marathon given the current situation in the metropolitan New York City area.”
The “resources” are there for activities like this Marathon, as well. Are you saying that the marathon organizers, participants, and vendors are freeloaders?
Not only the city has unfortunate people who suffered through the storms, but also unfortunate marathon organizers/runners/vendors who have to suffer through this batsh*t populistic craziness.
Rush put a stop to that Shiite.
So basically what you’re saying is that Bloomie has jurisdiction in all the boroughs? Seems like he just rules what goes on in NYC (Manhattan) and lets the boroughs fend for themselves; unless of course it’s in his interests.
M, kay. Thanks for that.
Probably called it off after considering what the locals would do to the runners.
