Election nears and discussion heats up

Posted on 11/02/2012 8:15:17 PM PDT by PaulZe

I was at a ballroom dance event in Harrisburg tonight and went to dinner at the restaurant there. As luck would have it sitting across from me was a family Mom, Dad, and two young adults...perhaps their kids. I overhear the conversation. Some of the things I heard were. Mom says “Tea Party Idiots”, “I hate Chris Christi” “I hate Tom Corbett” (R gov of Pa). The young adult says “There is only one reason that I’m voting for Obama and that’s because he got Bin Laden”. And the father says, “Pennsylvania is a lock because there will be 500,000 votes coming out of Philadelphia”. I am listening to this and couldn’t keep my mouth shut. So I say to the young male, “Obama didn’t get bin Laden the navy seals did” It was like I poked a hornets nest. A storm of invective was sent my way. Husband: “I don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh or watch Fox news I use my brain” “Romney is an elitist” “He doesn’t care about half the country”,”Republicans trying to suppress the vote with voter id”, “My disabled sister shouldn’t need a voter id”. Wife: “Look at the video ( the 47% video) that proves he doesn’t care”, mockingly laughing at me “hahahahaha the liberal media right hahahahaha” .

My responses as calmly as i could was to ask about Benghazi ...no reply. To ask if they knew of the Alabama utility company who drove up to New Jersey to offer help with the power outages but turned back because they were not union... no reply. Asked husband where he got his news? He said many different places. He kept repeating that PA is a lock because there will be 500,000 votes coming out of Philadelphia. I asked him where he works....he works for the labor department...gee fancy that.

Meanwhile in the booth next to this family was a couple, who became my back up. They were definitely urging me on. In fact when the husband said he doesn’t watch fox news....the guy said maybe you should.

Anyhow the conversation died down. They stopped paying attention to me. I tried once to get the attention of the wife but she wouldn’t acknowledge me. Here comes I wish i could have said this alert. If i could have talked to her I would have said, “Ma’am you mentioned Tea Party idiots. I have an IQ close to the mensa ranch. So you remember that the next time you spew your bigoted hatred” (That line was well rehearsed on my drive home) When they were leaving I said trying to be friendly, “Have a good rest of your evening” They just ignored me.

I chatted with the couple in the next booth. They told me they were from Western Pennsylvania. And all of Western Pa is for Romney except perhaps for Pittsburgh. That they had never seen anything like it before. They also told me they have a friend from the CIA and that if he heard what this family in the next booth was saying he would have pulled a chair up to their booth and started a conversation.

What possible future Federal job can now be entrusted to Benghazi-Coward Obama?

I believe many of us have encountered what you did. I try to keep to myself, but sometimes I hear such batbleep crazy statements coming out of some moonbat's mouth that I cannot keep from saying something.

That only happens once in a while. It serves to remind me why to keep my trap shut. There is little to no hope of having any kind of reasoned, logical or even calm discussion with a liberal. They respond to facts with bumper sticker slogans, and when those fail they make ad hominem attacks or pretend that somehow they have been personally offended.

Liberals, mentally, have never fully developed. They remain willing denizens of their own fantasy world, and if you threaten to intrude on it with reality they get very cranky. Imagine what they'll be like after Romney wins. Buy stock in antidepressant companies now!

All liberals are all hate and stupidity, all the time. At least, that’s a good working assumption. And they don’t think for themselves, at all, they regurgitate the party line talking points. They do that because they are so stupid and hateful.

I never engage these types of idiots, and seldom frequent the places they hang out. Take George Bernard Shaw's comment to heart: I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.

Driving across PA last week i saw lots of pro-Romney signs but none supporting Soetoro. In Somerset county so many houses had “Stop the war on coal, fire Obama! “ and Romney-Ryan signs.

There is anger on both sides, some based on pure misconceptions. But here is the reason I’ve discovered for the ever-widening chasm between the 2 ideologies:

Democrats make their decisions based on feelings.
Republicans make their decisions based on reason.

Perhaps a generalization, but after years of these sort of discussions, it’s what finally seems to be the bottom line.

These people didn't seem to like it much.

Maybe its different when you're wrestling with a pig who thinks he's human...and an elite human at that.

I had a dream one time. I was backstage at a Romney rally and out popped a 101 year old Ronald Reagan to give a speech on why we need to vote for Romney. After the the speech, he walked backstage next to me and I talked to President Reagan and I told him, "it is frustrating talking to liberals, no matter how much logic and reason you use, there is nothing I can do to convince them." He put his arm around my shoulders and told me, "you just waste time with these people, there is no way to convince them unless they see it for themselves." I said, "what do I say to them during a debate when they try to shout me down?" Reagan went on and said, "tell them to 'just shut up' like I did at a rally back in 1980."

Let's face it, there skulls might be made out of concrete, lead and/or "unobtanium" where you'll never get through. I get into it on Facebook with a guy I knew for 40 years from early grade school to now. I challenged him to give me a reason or three that Obama has done a good job. He just kept on how bad Fox news is and calling Romney names. As a gentleman, I said I will refrain on any Obama name calling and give a reason why Romney should get the vote. My reason was that "he would lower taxes and regulations to make business more free and this would create jobs." He did not reply at all.

We are in a Cold Civil War

Liberals are so humorless and nasty (for the most part), that I wouldn’t think of trying to be sly with them in a conversation.

I just come right out and start bursting their bubbles with facts and solid information. Don’t try logic and reason, though. Too advanced. Their mental circuits can’t handle it.

Many work for Government and have no idea what funds their paychecks and benefits.

They think they produce wealth, they suck wealth.

For the 4 dead in Benghazi, the civil war is unfortunately not so cold, not for the victims of Marxist elitist treason, those who sell American military weapons to Islamist jihadist al Queda terrorist insurgents in Libya, seeking overthrow of the Syrian government for our nationalist socialist criminal regime.

Whenever I hear uninformed opinions and conversations like this, I think that our forefathers got it right when only landowners had the right to vote. What can be done to increase the number of voters that actually can connect the dots? What can be done to increase the number of voters who can carry on a civil, intelligent, reasoned, and rational conversation to defend their political position?

Seeing people with Obama phones, who can only say that "Romney sucks" to justify their support of Obama, makes me fear for our country. Seeing angry, irrational useful idiots who can only revert to name calling, hysterical, loud, boisterous and bullying behavior and blaming the Republicans continues to shock me.

Not exactly. Many liberals make their decisions based on reason. The problem is that their basic assumptions about the world are false, so making rational decisions based on those false assumptions usually results in bad decisions. Sometimes, things work out simply by luck, and then they say "See, I was right all along!"
