Queens residents arm themselves in the post-storm blackout from looters
NY Daily News ^ | 11/2/12 | Clare Trapasso , Mark Morales AND Corky Siemaszko

Ever since Sandy strafed the Queens peninsula and tore up the boardwalk, it’s become an often lawless place where cops are even scarcer than electrical power and food. Locals say they are arming themselves with guns, baseball bats, booby traps — even a bow and arrow — to defend against looters. Thugs have been masquerading as Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) workers, knocking on doors in the dead of night. But locals say the real workers have been nowhere in sight, causing at least one elected official — who fears a descent into anarchy if help doesn’t arrive soon — to call for the city to investigate the utility.

Is a compound bow classified as an “assault weapon” in NYC?

Don’t tell Gloomberg. He’ll send out a detail of cops to arrest these people.

This storm just keeps on giving. If this isn’t a teachable moment, then these people are beyond educating.

It ain’t your fat nanny politician who will save your butt when the wolf is at the door.

FTA: -who fears a descent into anarchy if help doesn’t arrive soon-

Wonder how they know the difference when anarchy arrives, at least in some parts of the area?

Gee, things have been going soooo well since Mario Cuomo "necessarily bankrupted" LILCO. How'd that work out for ya, Lawn Guyland? They deserve to live in the dark for having elected the first Cuomo.

"...he wouldn't hesitate to use a bow on a looter."

While certainly better than nothing, the problem is not going to be "a looter" but "looters." You'd like to think enough people would wake up that NY would repeal some of its senseless, futile infringements on the Second Amendment, but probably not.

Still, it's probably like the two backpackers who encounter an enraged Grizzly bear. They both drop their packs, but the one begins to furiously shed his hiking boots and put on a pair of running shoes. His partner says, "You don't seriously think you're going to outrun that bear do you?" to which he replies, "I only have to outrun you."

Looters are criminals, and like water, will follow the path of least resistance. A man with a bow will be a much less desireable target than a woman with a butter knife.

When seconds count....the police are only minutes away.

. When diaster strikes....help from the government is only months away.

When terrorists strike....kiss your ass goodbye.

Doomberg would not even let the NG be requested in because he only wanted the police to be armed. People like him are a menace to freedom and liberty. He would rather have a homeowner speared by a looter than have the ability to take out the vermin. As far as I am concerned, they can take people like Doomberg and lautenberg in NJ and dump them at sea with the next garbage scow headed that way.

For those who've been disarmed by the nannies :

Bloomie said a cell phone near your bed is better than a gun. Cops should arrive in, oh, I dunno, half hour give or take.

I grew up in Queens, I remember the blackout of 1977. The Lebanese store owners showed up with lawn chairs and long guns and no one messed with their store.

“This storm just keeps on giving. If this isn’t a teachable moment, then these people are beyond educating.”

Regrettably, most of them -are- (”beyond educating”, that is).

“Teachable moments” only work when the population has the ability to learn...

This article is a perfect example of why us preppers call the need for assault weapons.

Not even a hunting rifle can be relied upon if a dozen “looters” come after you and your family.

We need — and have a God-given, inalienable right — to defend ourselves against being senselessly slaughtered.
