The Republican Party of today is the Democratic Party of 1860. Look at the deep South! It is the solid South for Republicans.

The Democratic Party of 1860 favored low (not none but low) tariffs and a smaller national government. The GOP favors lower taxes today and a smaller national government.

The ancestors of those Republican Whites were Democrats in 1860. The ancestors of those Democrat Blacks were organized as Republicans during "Reconstruction". Deep South States have to vote a huge majority of Whites in the Republican column to overcome the solid Black voting block and it does gain that sort of majority.

The newer dynamic is the tyranny of city people over country people nationwide. The cities vote Left and the countryside votes Right.

I am truly disappointed in the state level GOP....they basically threw out a number of good conservatives

agreed. They really screwed conservatives. We lost two great individuals who put ideals over party, and that's probably why they are gone.

In my district...the GOP primary was Sandy Adams vs John Mica. Both were solid, and at various times were my House Rep. Instead, we have one less conservative...and the return of Alan Grayson....Thanks Florida GOP! /sarc

If two staunch conservatives are losing, and a moderate Romney lost, it ain’t the politics being too conservative or too moderate; it’s the demographics. We are demographically screwed, period. It’s over for this country. Just live your life and dodge the slings and arrows of life as best you can. We are now a third rate country. Finis.
