Question: Ideas about how to realistically "Go Galt"?
11/7/12

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:53:04 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

I plan to cancel cable tv, quit the health club, am putting off purchases that I had planned IF Romney had won.

Am happy to hear ideas...I have to say my spouse was literally in tears last night, thinking about what dangers we face (not just as a family but as a society and a nation). We prayed together, asking God to guide us. HE knew this was going to happen, and HE can use this for HIS glory.

We just want to be as wise as possible with the resources God has provided.

So we welcome your input.

SFF, galting only works if the result costs the govt money. Will you pay your taxes?

In Atlas Shrugged, "going Galt" just meant leaving the jobs that propped up the system, and instead working at lower-level jobs.

In my case, "going Galt" would mean that I retire early, and reduce our family's spending accordingly, and have my taxable income drop to the point where I pay much less federal taxes than I currently do.

There's something to be said for cutting back on purchases of stuff I don't really need, and relaxing.

“If you can, home school your children.”

It’s a good idea for the here-and-now and people should enjoy it while they can. However, with Hussein and his unions having free rein (and reign!) for four more entire years, home schooling will not be tolerated. It might work if there’s a way to keep entirely off the grid, including avoiding medical treatment at mainstream providers. Once there’s a trigger that kids exist in America but don’t show up on school records, it’ll be over.

Valerie Jarrett is NOT Iranian. She was born there of American parents. She IS a Communist sympathizer.

Sadly, my prediction is going to come TRUE, we are not far off from a second American civil war or revolution.

I will be 80 this December.
I now have two strikes against me in our “Brave New World”, the age in which we now find ourselves, #1, My retirement pay is Military which I can see disappearing as the military slips into the abyss and then #2 there is the tender mercies I can expect under Obamacare. I realize that the chance of me voting in another free election is practically nil , I have spent one quarter of my life protecting my country, only to standby and watch it slip under the icey sea of socialism.

I can tell you that Hollywood gets not a red cent from me. I love movies but. Tom Hanks et al will have to pay their bills from royalties on the occasional DVD or rental flick.

If there is any industry that deserves to reap the harvest of lawlessness from the seeds it's sown, that's the one.

Well, I’ve no debt and I’m forced to spend my wages on essentials anyhow. Don’t go on vacations, don’t own a TV… pretty much just me in this small bare studio apartment full of books, a bed, and a computer. Not much further I can go with nonessential spending really.

I’m thinking maybe the best thing to do is hookup with other people who’re doing the same. Anyone know a good way to start networking with other like-minded folks? (aside from FR of course)

Get a government job. That will work to bring down the system as well as anything.

... it makes sense that conservatives should coalesce, not just online, but geographically.

We have. Look at the map. The entire center of the nation (except for NM & CO) and the south eastern quadrant (except FL) are conservative.

I look at the people in a mad rush to get the latest Apple gadget....

Here's a tip for those wishing to get the most milage they can out of their old Apple gadgets: specifically, laptops.

I learned about it years ago when I took my previous laptop in for repairs. I forget what the specific problem was, but repair of the problem was going to cost me north of eight hundred dollars.

When I showed no sign of getting the repair, OR of replacing the laptop, another, older, Apple Store associate told me about their"'package deal."

For $300 they will repair/replace absolutely EVERYTHING that is questionable, excepting the display.

I snapped it up like a hungry mackerel.

I was absolutely flabbergasted at the list of stuff they replaced when I got my laptop back! It was like having a brand new computer, and they replaced my old hard drive with an even bigger one, to boot!

I used this program again a few years ago, so I'm still running my first gen Intel MacBook Pro, and see no reason to replace it anytime soon. If it hadn't been for my prior PowerBook running the obsolete Motorola chip (thus limiting me by newer software/hardware integration issues), I'd still by using that one.

Hope this helps other Apple fans aiming to starve the beast.

Don’t donate to the Red Cross, etc for natural disasters that occur in blue States.

I would just go to the post office and ask them. They may issue you a new passport but I really don’t know.

I tell them to pray. I am not alone. Glenn Beck just had a man on that owns a small chemical company and he and his wife decided the same thing that I did. They are closing next year also. I am not the leader of anything but my own destiny and I am not qualified to TELL anyone else what they should do.

I am going to make certain that I have no debt... that I spend as little as possible... that I do not produce or create anything that can fund socialism. I am going to sit back and watch those that voted for obama try to finance obama. I have no power to do anything else beyond that. If a secession movement starts up... I will consider joining it if it is well organized and well planned... otherwise I do my part to starve the beast.
