Question: Ideas about how to realistically "Go Galt"?
11/7/12

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:53:04 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

I plan to cancel cable tv, quit the health club, am putting off purchases that I had planned IF Romney had won.

Am happy to hear ideas...I have to say my spouse was literally in tears last night, thinking about what dangers we face (not just as a family but as a society and a nation). We prayed together, asking God to guide us. HE knew this was going to happen, and HE can use this for HIS glory.

We just want to be as wise as possible with the resources God has provided.

So we welcome your input.

Is it possible for you to garden? If you don’t have a yard, there are many sites devoted to container gardening and gardening in small spaces. From July until October of this year, we harvested an average of 5 to 7 lbs. of vegetables and fruits. We ate some and preserved and shared the remainder. Canning and dehydrating food is worth considering. Perhaps you would be interested in the gardening thread on FR.

Going Galt is impossible, the next best alternative is bankrupt the system. That is very easy, get it while you can, cut back on your income, go on food stamps, get your ebt card, try to fit your life into every hand out that you can possibly receive, start taking more than you contribute, take it down fast, but have your guns ready because the takers will freak out when it’s all gone!

I’m going Galt on the spending side only, choosing not to give up my job (unless it gives me up first). They’d just fill it with someone else so the net effect would be bad for me

And we certainly can't have that now can we?

SFF, galting only works if the result costs the govt money. Will you pay your taxes?

You are not alone.

Very important to be healthy and in shape because Obamacare won’t be there for us when something serious happens.

I’m in the same situation. I may be a bit younger than you, but my circumstances are probably also a bit more precarious.

Do you know about this:

Australia is a good choice!

I was thinking Costa Rica or some other Central American country or some place where the dollar will go further.

Will you pay your taxes?

Of course I will, but the unemployed auto worker and construction worker that would otherwise have worked for my benefit would not, and would instead be a cost to the government. The auto worker, in particular, was probably a liberal anyway.

With my husbands health problems since 2009, we are not good, debt-wise. We have to concentrate on getting rid of debt. We have several months of food put back, and don’t plan on making any large purchases. We need a new roof, but buckets will have to do for now. I can live with that. We need to live more self-sufficiently.

The only way to do it is like GW Bush did in 2008 and buy a 100,000 acre ranch in South America.

Just my opinion, but I believe America is a hinderance to end times prophesy, we are a stabilizing force protecting Israel from an end time that revolves around them. BO will make us irrelevant, thus allow the final battle to occur.

>>>Texas. See you there.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

More importantly, though:

Milton Friedman once said that the U.S. became a strange sort of democracy because it rested on special-interest groups. The special-interest group is the real political unit, not the individual. If this is so, then it makes sense that conservatives should coalesce, not just online, but geographically. I know it’s impractical (it certainly is for me at the moment) but we should all be figuring out ways that we can live closer together; the idea of many of us moving to Texas is not so silly. While it’s fantastic that we can all communicate via the Internet and other forms of digital technology, that doesn’t help us create a political-unit.

Actually, that has already been discussed in some articles in recent times, but for the life of me I cannot remember the term for it. I think the number “1035” was in the title of it. Nevertheless, I think you are correct. As reality bites the idiot government, they will get desperate and start moving in.

Friend, You won’t have to “Go Galt”. Galt will come to you once we try to borrow at the ever-accelerating rate that is necessary to keep the status quo.

You won’t like it.

Better advice: Think depression. think what can you do to make life more tolerable, and in some case simply possible. How many kids will return under your roof - or will you have to move in yourself with someone else.

Being self employed and seeing my savings being eaten up by having to pay taxes out of it because the economy is so bad hardly any work is coming in now is really getting me down. Before 0 was in office, I was constantly busy and had plenty to pay taxes without having touch my savings. Now with the added burden of Obamacare I fear I’m going to slide from the middle class to ? I guess if that happens to a large enough portion of the middle class there won’t be enough people paying in to the Ponzi scheme and the 0 government system will implode in on itself o that the useless idiots can see what they’ve brought on themselves. Revelation is coming true right before our own eyes.

You know, you may have a point. A lot of folks have for a year or more believed the system to be so far gone they want to just hurry up and crash the whole thing with the idea of starting over with a clean slate. I don’t think it’s that simple, and will probably have huge implications many of those folks never calculated, but something to ponder nevertheless.
