Question: Ideas about how to realistically "Go Galt"?
11/7/12

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:53:04 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

I plan to cancel cable tv, quit the health club, am putting off purchases that I had planned IF Romney had won.

Am happy to hear ideas...I have to say my spouse was literally in tears last night, thinking about what dangers we face (not just as a family but as a society and a nation). We prayed together, asking God to guide us. HE knew this was going to happen, and HE can use this for HIS glory.

We just want to be as wise as possible with the resources God has provided.

So we welcome your input.

That almost worked for that Jeffries dude, the polygamous Mormon leader.

Get at least four years of food/water and - of course - weapons.

And buy precious metals and store them where you can defend them.

Silver and Gold are much, much cheaper now than they are going to be in two years time. The dollar is going to crash. Your pensions will be seized and put into Government bonds.

With RR out of the way there is nothing now that can stop the collapse of the dollar. America’s natural gas revolution is going to be severely hampered by a resurgent EPA.

Interesting thread.

I have the same goal. To shrivel away and not participate ion this economy to any greater extent than is absolutely necessary. Because obamas plans absolutely depend on citizens creating wealth that can be redistributed. That means our buying stuff that creates jobs for the mouth breathers who voted for obama, or for some peasant in China or Guatemala.

I suppose we can start with Christmas. What if Christians just STOPPED giving material things? Would our presence then be known by those who hold us in such contempt?

I can tell you that Hollywood gets not a red cent from me. I love movies but. Tom Hanks et al will have to pay their bills from royalties on the occasional DVD or rental flick.

I thought about this last night as the results kept assaulting me. I am not prone to whine, but am much concerned about the long term implications of where we’re headed (as are most of us on this thread). The thought of “going galt” is very appealing from a standpoint of refusing to involve myself in the entitlement, big beauracracy mentality that consumes us. My plan is to continue to better myself physically, spiritually and mentally and to watch (for the time being) the drama unfold. I will curtail my spending which shouldn’t be that big a sacrifice. It’s as close to a cause as I can muster.

At the end of four years if the leftist utopia has not been realized, it will be fun to just smile at the eternally outraged “kumbayaers” that seem to pervade my space constantly. See you in four!

I know folks who for the lack of a true conservative candidate on the ballot voted for Zero for that very reason.

Sit home, for crying out loud...why put that on your resume for Judgement Day?

Gold is a gamble if you think of it as an investment.

Less of a gamble if you think of it as wealth preserver.

Look at who is buying huge amounts of gold and ask yourself why.

Ultimately your best investment is yourself and your family. What will make you safe healthy and happy?

excerpted:

... Living, Traveling and Retiring in the Philippines as a foreigner or “expat”, is a dream comes true for me. Beaches, ocean and mountains are all at my doorstep. The sun almost always shines here, where I live, out of the northern typhoon belt.

Almost all Filipinos and Filipinas adore foreigners, expatriates, (expats) who live here or retire here. And they welcome and appreciate or just tourist too, the only English speaking country in the world were foreigners from any country are respected and admires. ...

Last year I felt like I would be in the camp that would vote 3rd party, then reality struck. I voted for Mitt.

I suppose some folks felt like they needed to punish the GOP-e for giving them a liberal from Massachusets.

I full expect complete implosion of the Republican Party at this point. Demographic changes that Pat Buchanan warned us about I believe are kicking in now rather than 20 or 30 years in the future.

“Millions of ‘proud’ Roman Catholics voted for Obama and pro-abortion candidates yesterday... “ And they will be called to account for that at some point. They’ll have a lot of ‘splainin to do.

I refuse to spend money any longer on anything but necessities. No movies, no cokes and extras for the kids. They need to understand where we are headed and that things will not be simple in their futures. For Christmas I’m planning hand made gifts and a large meal.
I refuse to participate in my own destruction and the destruction of my families future. There was never any real choice in the election either way it is simply being an agent in the suicide of a nation.
Most of all, I’m boycotting the music and entertainment industries. These people are examples of a kind of ignorance and moral decay that I’m not even sure I want to attempt to understand.

Of course we will want to be as self sufficient as possible...storing extra food is good. Growing your own food and then preserving it is better. Reducing our economic footprint is something we can do to deprive the left with the means to support their government. That may look like retiring early, or going self sufficient.

It is illegal to “go underground” by dealing in trade with barter or cash that deprives the government of tax revenue. But, it is not illegal to choose to do business with like minded folks rather than those on the left. We do not have to buy products from companies who are unionized...we can buy used cars for instance or Toyota, etc. We don’t have to hire as often as we did before for services we can do ourselves or we can limit our hiring to those who are like minded.

I fear for our churches who soon will be forced to perform gay marriages, provide contraception and possibly even abortions at religious health care facilities. I am not sure how defiant they will be able to be...I am with them first and foremost.

I would recommend changing your lifestyle to as healthy of one that you can...health care is going to change and the thought of relying on socialized medicine, especially for conservative Christians, is not attractive. They will use the health care system as part of their reward/punishment strategy to grow their power over us. So, living a healthy lifestyle can help to diminish our reliance on that system.

For myself, I am considering liquidating my assets and company and relocating either to a state like Texas or Utah or perhaps to another country. We used to be able to say that no matter which party was in power we still lived in America...I don’t think that holds true any longer...we live in a much different world today...it isn’t based upon ideals of individual freedom, religious freedom, or moral decency. It is based upon greed for the property of the productive, it is based upon raw power over the people. So, I am thinking that perhaps it is time to look elsewhere...not sure yet. Maybe a non-violent effort, I am thinking Poland in the 80’s, to overthrow this government can work. The problem is, over the next few days and weeks so many who are conservative will adjust to this new nation and not be willing to risk financially much less with their lives to restore freedom. Most of us will just want to do the “best we can” within the framework of whatever the democrats make for us.

So, this morning is a bleak morning...I am very open to constructive ideas...

I think you are exactly correct. Netanyahu is gonna go after Iran quickly now while they still have a chance and before obama aligns with Iran. Remember, Valerie Jarrett is Iranian.

I am sick about what has happened to this country but then again how amazing to be the generation that sees Jesus come back for His own.

No TV for my kids (except for special events such as elections or National Geographic, Animal Planet and other educational things) for them it’s all Old Time Radio - Jack Benny, My Friend Irma, I Love Lucy or political talk radio.

I am considering similar things. I was going to buy a new Mac Mini to replace this Mac which is several years old. I will just keep running the old one. It still works but won’t run the new OS. So what! I’ll just load Linux.

I may get rid of my satellite TV and some other things. I am certainly not going to be spending much money now, except for living expenses.

It’s sad to reach a point where it needs to be said, but their are times when death is the more noble choice at hand.
