The Republican Party died last night and there will be no resurrection. The socialists have a firm grip on the mechanics of our government and are loading up their base for all future elections. I never will see a Republican president in my lifetime.

Take the time to read the comments from Lonsberry;s column on his website. Interesting.

The Democrats are now the “natural party” of government like the Liberals were in Canada.

Republicans can still win but it will be to serve as caretakers for the next Democratic President.

Like it or not we are now a center-left country and we have to come to terms with that fact.

Buy gold and buy guns. When the inevitable economic meltdown occurs, it will be the only way to survive the chaos. Someday soon welfare and social security recipients and public sector unions will be cut off the gravy trains - not by any political decision - but simply because the government will no longer be able to borrow money to keep the ponzi scheme going. Greece is run by leftists who are as much in love with public spending as Obama but they have had their day of reckoning. America is next. A slim majority of Americans want to use government power to steal what the other 49% has. That is a recipe for economic armagedon and destruction of the social order. The die has been cast.

People should avoid drawing conclusions until the emotions have quelled. Both sides are misreading this right now. We are in for some interesting times over the next 4 years, much of it, at this time, unexpected.

I said the GOP would go the way of the Whigs if Moderate Mitt was nominated.

I don't like seeing it, but it is becoming increasingly obvious the GOP is on the fast track to its death spiral.

I believe you are correct.

With the dems winning over 70% of the hispanic vote you can be sure that there will be no enforcement of immigration laws and amnesty is just around the corner. The makeup of the electorate will continue changing for the worse at an accelerated pace.

Way too defeatist. Romney lost because the economy, while anemic, is recovering from the recession of 2008 due to a Federal debt binge and money-printing by the central bank, and Obama is getting the credit, just as Bush got the credit for the boom that followed 9/11, as Greenspan opened the credit spigots and Congress practically forced banks to lend to NINJA (no income, no jobs or assets) borrowers. When the inevitable economic crash occurs before 2016, the GOP will be in a position to participate in another wave election like Obama’s in 2008, but this time in the GOP’s favor.

Well said. 2 years ago we couldn't lose. We swept the races and the initiatives. So this idea that we're all done for is nonsense. We have some adjustments to make sure, especially with women and Hispanics, but NO ONE has any idea what next year will bring let alone 4 years.

I don’t think it will be that dramatic. I think the standard of living will simply go into a long, slow decline, and most of today’s youth won’t really care as long as they can mentally check out with iPods and gameboys, drugs and sex. If the surging populations of Hispanic Catholics and Middle-Eastern Muslims are eventually sucked into the same fat, lazy spiral, humanity will just gradually sink into petty, squabbling mediocrity with a life-span of about 65 years, and an acceptance of very limited personal space or freedom (rather like a zoo animal). And let’s face it: it’s all most of them want, need, or deserve. Those of us who are different will carve our own quiet path away.

The GoP died when it put forth a lame pro-abort "god-in-embryo" who embraced socialist healthcare...[IoW...it died last Early Spring]

Conservatives have just been in denial about all that...

So what did they do?...they seared the consciences of MILLIONS who for the FIRST time voted for a pro-abort RINO under the auspices of the lesser of two evils' crap...

What nonsense! The republican party supposedly “died” after 1932, 1964, 1974, 1992, and 2008.

Once again the party will need to be remade with new blood, the old leaders thrown out and new ones will rise up.

The senate remains in democrat hands but Lugar, Snowe and Brown are gone! Replaced by Flake, Fischer and Cruz.

We aren’t going to ever win again at the ballot box until we create new voters that understand freedom and individual responsibility. That won’t happen overnight and it won’t happen through government.

The liberals won this country by playing a long game. They pretended to be moderate and slowly took over many of our institutions outside of government, primarily academia and the media, but even some religious organizations. They spent the better part of the last forty years doing it.

Now they have generations of indoctrinated voters.

Conservatives need to understand we have to now do the same thing in reverse. We need to concentrate politically on local issues and on playing defense where we can. Outside of government, we need to start hiding our beliefs (like they did) going into the media and academia (like they did) and slowly turning things around.

As I said before, it won’t be quick...and it won’t be easy. But we have nearly a half century of socialism ingrained in the population that has to be stripped away and replaced.

No, they died when they force fed everyone Mitt, last night was just the death knell

Not to be too pessimistic, but By 2016 even if that were to happen, and considering the end results yesterday, the only guys we will be running for the R ticket will be the likes of Chris Christie or ex RINO Jeb Bush. GOP may have one last shot of winning, but the idea of conservatism still being a part of the party platform is hard to imagine as the GOP-E will shift hard left just to compete. Dinesh D’Sousas Obama’s America 2016 might still come to fruition.

” Buy gold and buy guns.”

What if obama issues an executive order banning private ownership of gold? FDR did that in 1933 and it wasn’t repealed until 1974 by Gerald Ford.

The nation has changed, the values have been replaced, the demographics are different.

I don't believe that's the problem. The problem is the inside the beltway Repubs keep choosing our candidates for us, and they're always Rinos. The majority has given up, because they have no one to vote FOR. People are tired of voting "against" just to get a simpler version of a democrat.

Who here actually wanted Romney? Most here didn't want him, and my guess is a lot of people sat it out because he was was just like all the others - another Rino.
That's the Republicans problem. Give us someone we can actually, fully support next time.

Give the majority a voice! Give us a candidate we can happily vote FOR.

When Rush started his radio program, people freaked. His bosses thought no one would listen to him. To peoples surprise, there was half a country crying out for someone who'd speak for them, and Rush became the best loved radio host in the country, because he spoke for that silent majority. For once, people actually got to hear Rush say what they've been thinking and feeling for generations.

More specifically, America wants liberal. It wants an activist, empowered government, imposing fairness and supporting entitlement.

There is much truth in your article. The statement above is only partly true. There is a huge swath that love the big government, but a huge chunk of voters indicated sharing many of our beliefs of smaller government, too, but don't seem to be aware they are supporting the opposite. Many uninformed voters. They vote against their own preferred interests. They either like to be lied to or seem to only take one side's word to define their view. I see countless people online placing full blame on Republicans for obstructionism, and that is lie. Lot's of Americans are being bamboozled. Hopefully we don't face another flim-flam artist like Obama for awhile in elections.
