I think Chuck Todd has this right, and not just because of last night’s poor showing for Republicans among Hispanics. In looking at the daunting issues facing the lame-duck 112th Congress and the incoming 113th, comprehensive immigration reform might be a comparative slam-dunk:
After Tuesday night’s re-election victory for President Barack Obama, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd predicted that one of the president’s agenda items — one promise he never managed to fulfill in his first term — would breeze into law. ”Immigration reform,” he said, will get “80 to 90 votes in the Senate.” Since the election night results showed Republicans unable to attract Latino voters, he said, “Republicans will run, not walk, in trying to support that now.”
The question isn’t whether Republicans will rush to back some version of comprehensive immigration reform. There have always been enough Republican votes in the Senate to pass a reform plan. A Republican President came close to passing a version of it in 2007 but got demagogued by Democrats and halted by conservatives in the Senate who thought it gave too much away. Had Obama chosen to propose immigration reform in 2009, ahead of ObamaCare and particularly if he had allowed Republicans more of a bipartisan role in shaping a stimulus package both sides wanted in one form or another, Obama could easily have passed immigration on his terms three years ago.
Now, immigration reform looks like low-hanging fruit compared to the crises that face our political class now. The lame-duck Congress has to undo sequestration and deal with Taxmageddon. The next Congress has to figure out how to deal with massive deficits and unfunded entitlement liabilities that will crush the American economy within a decade without serious reform. On those issues, there is substantial philosophical and ideological hostility. In comparison, there are only a few issues keeping immigration reform from being passed, nearly none of which are ideological, and most of which are either technical or matters of prioritization.
I’d expect this to get taken up in early 2013 and pass by the summer, with substantial compromise on both sides. It may be the only real bipartisanship we see next year.

Yes, this is probably true. Republicans will probably cave on this thinking it will help them win Hispanic votes. It won’t. Hispanics are voting Democrat because a high percentage of them are poor and rely on government. They want free stuff. Period. It isn’t really any more complicated than that.
Should we be more mindful how we speak on issues of immigration? Yes. Should we make every effort to reach out to Hispanics so we don’t lose them by massive margins like we do now? Absolutely. But this nut is going to be tough to crack. The problem is they support big government social welfare programs. We could literally spearhead immigration reform and it wouldn’t help much since that is not why they don’t support the GOP.

Exactly: And he is right. Republicans will back whatever Obama tosses at them ,because most of them are democrats in disguise anyway and the rest have no balls.

Right, just like failing to oppose “affirmative action” brought all those blacks into the GOP. Their problem was not opposing reverse discrimination in its infancy 40 years ago. Would have brought alot of Anglos into the party decades earlier. Same with immigration, should have kept the quotas instead of allowing the disruption of demographics. Now we are reaping the ill effects, not just politically but the inevitable riots and terrorist acts and continued whining from these groups.

The fact is the GOP lost in multiple states that are almost purely White and hardly any illegals or Hispanics, so losing had nothing or little to do with the Latino vote.

71% of Hispanics and 74% of Asian’s voted for Obama. GOP strategist Mike Murphy said in October 2011 that if you re-ran the 1980 election using today’s demographics, Reagan would win...but barely.

1. Ignore the Hispanics’ demands to give blanket amnesty to illegals, and continue to see them flock to the dems by 75%... or...
2. Appease the Hispanics’ demands to give blanket amnesty to illegals and continue to see them... and the erstwhile illegals... flock to the dems by 70%.

Yes, this is absolutely correct. What we’re seeing is 19th Century Tammany Hall tactics at work: let the immigrants in, give them free stuff, then make sure they know who gave them the free stuff when elections roll around.
Quite frankly, this is exactly what doomed the GOP with Blacks after the GOP was instrumental in passing the 1960s Civil Rights Acts. The GOP couldn’t win in a CRA vs CRA + free stuff scenario.

Republicans can’t give in on illegal immigration. However, Republicans do need to reach more of the Latino vote. Not all Latinos are for illegals.
Last night, I was at my son’s baseball practice and the majority of the kids on his team are Latino. All of them working-class Latinos. When the election was called for Obama, every one of those Lationo parents was disappointed and griping about the expectation of higher taxes.
My wife was at my other son’s practice. Same situation. Most kids on that team are Latino. When she got home she said all those parents had the same reaction when hearing the news.
We are past the point of no return now, the invaders and their allies among us now outnumber us. It was so sad last night to watch the pictures of all the white people at Obama’s victory speech.
I have never seen anyone so happy to have voted to allow strangers from a foreign land invade the country our forefathers built from literally nothing to give to us, their posterity, only to have them throw it all away for a socialist pipe dream.
All immigration should of been stopped decades ago. The barbarians are now inside the gates, and we gave them and THEIR posterity voting rights to take everything from us and give it to THIER children and childrens, children. As is conservationism it would seem. True libertianinism is the believe in indiviual liberty.
Conservtivism is not an ideology but rather a desire to either hold on to what exist or return to what was.
Holding on to what exist is desirable to almost nobody, and returning to what was is perhaps no longer possible given the destruction of our demographic, moral, and economic base brought about over the last 100 years.
We can try to recreate the values and printable that led to what was, but that is mostly called liberalism with religious traditionalism.
In all of theses efforts our main problem is the matter of race, specifically the democrat’s lock on ethic minority as a kind of voter slave. We know from talking to these people that almost all of them are as conservative or more so than we are. But we simply can’t get their vote why?
Why are they voting for something or someone that is so at odds with their traditions and values?
There is something there and we have to Find & distory it fast! Or there will be nothing more than the democratic party period.

You know its interesting how in reality most of the Democratic party in particularly their black minority want that and many other conservative causes and yet they wont vote for it.
We have a very serous problem of race in America, only its not the problem the leftist have been defining for 100+ years its a problem of entire races voting in lock step against their own values & printable. In short they are themselves racist against themselves.
We have anther more fundmetal problem too, our famly has fallen apart with real marrage.
infact I would even go so far as to assert that REAL marrage does NOT EXIST anymore for 90% of the population.
A real marriage does not end in divorce, a real marriage is not defines so much by love as commitment to family. Hollywood has taken this acent idea and thrown it out with the baby.(who are also being produced at sub-replacement levels)
The short and simple status report is America is mostly dead already. What survives of our legacy are going to be the small pockets that hold to virtues. Perhaps groups like the Amish and the devout populations of the south.
There is likely to be little left of the rest of us in a 100 years time after we who are now living have all died off.
Major mistake, my office mate is a first generation American from Mexico and she is very English official language and emigration by the books. As a plus she’s as good looking as Salma Hayek.

The Issue needs to be Addressed soon. Do you want LATINOs to be another DEMOCRATIC branch like the blacks are? We need to get the hispanic leaders and talk to them.
Hispanics are the new majority and if we don't do something, we might close down the GOP, because they'll have Texas, Florida and Georgia soon!!
