The Deal the GOP Congress members should offer the president
JLS | 7 November 2012 | JLS

The GOP needs to use their one big chit in the tax negotiation. They need to demand that included in this deal is increasing the national debt limit.

In return for increasing the national debt limit they need to get something tangible. Something like no tax increase. They can not accept illusions of spending cuts that will never happen. They could link the debt ceiling to the current tax code and everytime the debt limit comes up, the tax code would too.

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: borrowing; deficits; taxes
The need not to blink, because not debt limit increase means eventually actual spending cuts.

There are at least 4 things I can think of that they can demand:

Repeal of Obamacare
Bush tax cuts made permanent
Balanced Budget Constitutional Aendement
Entitlement reform

Tell Obama he can have his debt increase but he has to agree to at least one of those.

Another item to the list is, for the first time in 3 to 4 years, to pass a budget.

We have $1+ TRillion yearly deficits because without a budget, and with “continuing resolution government”, we’ve somehow locked-in yearly-forever permanency to the so-called “one-time” $780+ Billion stimulus bill.

I would limit it to #1 or #2 only .... the other two take too long & would be future actions to be resolved that Obama could say he would do and then not act (in other words, he’ll lie ... again). You could get a vote on #s 1 & 2 almost right away.

We CANNOT increase the debt limit. Our debt is larger than the GDP. This is not sustaniable.

Democrats do not keep their word. What makes you think they will now?

WRONG!

The Republicans should give everything the demorats want! Help them spend up pushing this Country off the cliff! Put every American they can on disability, welfare, and free Obumbum phones! The quicker this Nations goes bankrupt the faster the Conservative Americans can finally hang this economy around the necks of these socialist and end their campaign to destroy what we knew of America!

I say give the socialist exactly what they want! The only way the American (ignorant) will ever wake up is when the system finally collapses under its own weight and can no longer provide the cradle to the grave welfare!

It will be real interesting to watch the demorats scramble to place the blame on others while they are in control going on the fifth year now!

You don’t give liberals and progressives anything, they take what they want. In that regard we should ignore them and they will flush this toilet all the faster.

Interesting list, only the last one is a nonstarter. They would promise, the GOP would give and then get nothing. The other three all could be passed at the same time in a single bill.

That is the only way the GOP members can deal with these people.

I don’t think you should say wrong to me. I too have thought of your approach. It is an interesting one. I don’t see it as very practical, but maybe mine is a pipe dream too.

BTW, they will blame the GOP House and their core voters will eat up that excuse.

Absolutely, JLS. The House pubbies need to find the backbone they misplaced so long ago.

For me? Shut it down. No budget? Then, no continuing resolution, no ‘side deals’. Shut it DOWN!

The pubbies can’t look any worse to the American people than right now, anyway. Time for the GOP to die off, replaced by staunch Constitutionalists, with guts to break down 50 states to 150 smaller states, with distributed representation and electoral votes.

No more promises. Pass it with the sweeteners included in the bill, or pass nothing.

If Obama wants to “soak the rich”, call his bluff and offer a 100% tax on anyone earning more than $10 million /year.
