I have an even better idea. Let’s let all of those people who want to be a state move to the mainland and then those of us who are true patriots, conservatives, and want a minimal government all move to the island and make it our own country.
About 30 states want to be freed from the US right now. PR can have their spots on the flag.
They should stay with the deal they’ve got. Why jump on a sinking ship? What’s in it for them? I mean the people; what’s in it for the politicians is obvious.
What about Mexico, too?:) And Cuba:)
I'm sure the House voting this down will do wonders for the GOP and the Hispanic vote.
Everything is a racial booby-trap.
Not anymore they don’t.
Really? Do you think there will be anything other than Democrats from Puerto Rico sent to DC?
You’re quite right. Sometimes people can’t see beyond the ends of their noses! I don’t know what good it will do but your protest is noted!
It'd be an improvement over Hussein.
...have supported a non-binding referendum to become a full US state... The island is currently a US territory... almost 54% voted to change the island's relationship with the US. And in reply to a second question on what future they favoured, nearly two-thirds wanted full statehood. If Congress grants its approval, Puerto Ricans would have the right to vote in all US elections, but would also have to pay federal taxes, something at present they are excused from.Great. Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to collect income taxes on dope using and dealing, and cock fighting.
If I am not mistaken, they voted for statehood once before. I think that Congress voted against it though.
The theory bing, what House member wants to lose their seat, because the constitution calls for a mandatory 435 House seats. The moment Pourto Rico becomes a state, the country must be redistricted to allow for the new increase of population and allow Pourto Rico to have it’s share of Congressmen.
Considering the size of their population they would get about 5 members. Which Congressmen are willing to vote against their own interest? Remember, we are talking about politicians here. One thing they all have in common is they are narcicistic to a point.
So pourto Rico can continue voting for statehood, and they will continue getting denmied by Congress.
Now, let’s say they get statehood, would Obama want to start campaigning for 6 more so he can then claim was actually phsycic when he stated that he campaigned in all 57 states back in 2008?
That would solve Texas’ immigration problems and they could keep the liberals from overrunning the state too!
Don’t know how to post a link but Glenn had this figured out 2 years ago. I remember the vote because Tom Cole voted for it and sent me a letter after I ask him to vote against it telling I just didn’t have enough knowledge on the subject, One of many timed he has proved to be a real disappointment for Oklahoma.
Puerto Ricans server in the US military at a rate far greater than any other group in this country. I have had the honor of working with many of these fine veterans. Once they start paying taxes, they'll become more conservative.
Not all Hispanics are the same, and bottom line is this, if we don't teach them about the superiority of Conservativism, our side will NEVER win again. Simple demographic fact. So stop Hatin, and start educatin.
I can’t believe what I’m reading in this thread in light of yesterdays sweep.
57 or is it 58?
I'm not so sure about that; voting Hispanics went 71 percent for Obozo. The Dimocrats (and a few Republicans) have done a good job of painting conservatives as anti-immigration. Once that label sticks, it's tough to get rid of.
Texas v. White covered it. No matter how much you would like to pretend it didn’t.
