Asian Americans Overwhelmingly Backed Obama, Democrats

By Kim Geiger November 8, 2012 Much has been made of the Latino vote and its crucial role in boosting President Obama to victory, but it was Asian Americans who made the most dramatic shift in support for the president Tuesday.

Exit polls show that 73% of Asian Americans backed Obama, an 11-point increase since 2008. Asian Americans came out in such force for Obama that they topped Latinos as his second-most supportive ethnic group, behind African Americans.

Latinos, who made up 10% of the electorate, went 67% for Obama, 5 points higher than in 2008.

While Asians accounted for just 3% of the electorate – up from 2% in 2008 – their overwhelming support made them a key component of the Obama coalition, especially in swing states like Virginia, Florida and Colorado.

And their numbers are increasing rapidly. They were the fastest-growing ethnic group from 2000 to 2010.

“We are clearly an undeniable and unshakable political power,” said Rep. Michael M. Honda, a California Democrat and chairman emeritus of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. "As the fastest-growing ethnic community in the country, we are the margin of victory."

An election eve poll by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund and the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development confirmed what was seen in exit polls: 72% of Asian Americans backed Obama and 73% supported Democrats in congressional races. One-fifth were first-time voters.

Honda,, of San Jose, whose California district is now the first in the continental United States to contain an Asian American majority, said Asian Americans have become increasingly aware of their ability to influence elections.

“When people start to understand their worth, they participate,” he said.

What do they mean by Asian. Remember, when Joe Biden enters a Donkin Donuts or a 7/11 in Delaware he sees a lot of Asians. Also everytime a rumor of a Koran burning hits the internet, thousands of Asians embark on murderous rampages.

I thought Asians were supposed to be smart.

That made me smile. But it's not all about numbers and science when it comes to politics. We will all find that out when we go over the fiscal cliff. Then we will unify in misery.

I have always maintained that if you want to be on the dole, you have to temporarily give up the right to vote.

Absolutely, that's how it should work. Voting while on government relief is a conflict of interest!

If you are receiving welfare or food stamps and have been doing so for longer than 3 months – you lose your right to vote for as long as you receive such public tax payer provided assistance . Biometrics to confirm who is recipient of such benefits , and who is ineligible to vote .

Those that make their entire living off of public assistance should not be able to vote for those that promise to continue the handouts . This amounts to Vote Buying .
Immigrants to this country , even when naturalized , should not have the right to vote in national elections , ever . Only the children of those immigrants that come in legally and eventually naturalize would earn this U.S. voter status . This is something that must be earned , through time , and loyalty and heritage , not part of a package deal . The ability to affect the future of our country should NOT be up to the thundering hoards of immigrants , attracted by all the promise of benefits . The right to vote should only be for those born here of two United States citizen parents . Exceptions should be made for those that have served honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States , ONLY . Anyone found to have entered the United States illegally , and to include their children , should never be awarded the right to vote in U.S. elections .

Any child born of parents , who have illegally entered the United States , will remain the nationality of the parents and their country of origin and does NOT automatically become a U.S. citizen , If the parents themselves are not legal immigrants and have not themselves gone through the U.S. citizen naturalization process , for the benefit of said children , then their resulting children cannot be rewarded for the crimes of their parents . Citizenship should be by the numbers or the rights thereof forever forfeit to those who would seek to circumvent our national protection of carefully laid out immigration laws and conditions of entry and citizenship . No amnesties to immigration criminals .

Those not born in the United States , or born to both non-U.S. born , or non- U.S. naturalized parents ,should not be allowed to run for , or hold, higher than local political office . This should apply not only to the office of the President of the United States , but to any and all Federal offices , including U.S. House Representative and U.S. Senate , and the position of Justice of the Supreme Court , or Presidential Cabinet level official . Citizens of the United States should not be placed under the legislative power and judgement of non-U.S. born individuals, from non-U.S born parentage , no matter of what their naturalized citizenship status is . Loyalty to to the U.S. Constitution , from a deeper level would be assured in this manner . THIS is how we must guard our own unique national heritage , into the distant future .

The office of President of the United States should not be held by any individual who has not previously served honorably as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America . We cannot ask the best of us ,who serve their nation in harms way , to submit to the civilian leadership of a Commander and Chief who has never themselves worn the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces .

Anyone found committing or abetting Voter / Vote fraud , on any level , should permanently lose their right to vote thereafter . Furthermore they should be marked with a brand , showing VF ( vote fraud ) This is the only deterrent to this growing crime against the state .

Treason , resulting in the death or murder of our U.S. Armed Forces members or diplomats shall be a hanging offense . Regardless of rank in the government or public position . Judgement shall be carried out swiftly .and without appeal .

I fully agree. They are from communist and socialist countries and they have no problem with big government. They are happy abortion crowd. They believe in liberal media. They work hard and don’t have time to get involved or understand issues.
When I became citizen, I initially registered as Republican and people thought I am stupid. Now I am independent.
Currently, big fight is going on my facebook after I spoiled their facebook Obama Victory party.

GOP should start tapping them as soon as they take oath. My boss took me to firing range and explained me 2nd amendment when I was on H1B Visa. And now, I am Constitutional and fiscal conservative because of him. I live in California.

Asians and Asian-Americans cling to their rituals, religion, and culture, all of which are incompatible with the traditions of a nation with a Christian heritage. They feel isolated and threatened. To be sure we have the high achieving Asians who have embraced Republican values, but this is only a very small minority. This group feels more at home under an all-inclusive Obama umbrella.

‘Asian pacific blah blah caucus’ -
when are we EVER going to have a white caucus or
just plain old ‘American’ caucus -

How many different caucus’ do we have now?
And yet, not a single one that represents the majority.

Oh nevermind, I already know - I’m racist -
I’m so over it.

Asians made up 3.4 percent of the electorate. The Republican party turned off Asians with their harsh immigration rhetoric that spilled out during the contentious primary contest among the Republican candidates. Asians saw Obama more likely to pass immigration reform which would give Asians an easy pathway to citizenship. They saw Romney more likely to put through more restrictive immigration reform.

It appears that it’s over for whitey in the U.S. No crackers allowed. Now all we have to do if figure out where we’re going to go.

Wish I could build an FTL starship or a stargate. B-) Seriously, I'm favoring secession more and more.

Why would Asian citizens with voting rights care that much about immigration reform?

I think they just tend to be liberal people. There is very low Christianity among Asian cultures. There is more of a tradition of communism in their countries.

If you had a choice between a candidate that promised you if you worked hard he would for allowing you to keep as much of your earnings as possible, OR voting for Santa Clause - who would you pick? As Rush has been saying the past two days, how does one go up against Santa Clause particularly when the commies have taken over the education system and the corrupt media?

I know on Facebook when Rush started talking about Obama winning, I really exploded and lost it. I typed to him that in Theodore H. White wrote in "Making of the President - 1964" that "Democrats are for Santa Claus, Republicans are for Virtue." I added something like, "How in the Hell can we compete against Santa Claus?" That's it, pure and simple. I don't know if I started something and Rush read it, I'd like to, it's neat to hear some poor chump prole influence something and it gets legs. B-)

My mother, when she found out the Bamster was going to win, she actually went to the bathroom to throw up.

One of my best friends is Filipino, a right-winger so hard core he makes most freepers sound like DU trolls, one which is a rarity.

The Philippines is one of the few Christian Asian countries out there. I think they're far more socially conservative than the U.S.

Strange bedfellows. In our neck of the woods, Asians can’t stand Hispanics. You can see the disdain during interactions in restaurants and retail stores. And yet, both groups overwhelmingly voted DEM.

I just can't comprehend this... Asians, Jews and Catholics vote overwhelmingly for Obama and democRATs.

We're living in bizarro world...

My sis-in-law is Flip’. They may be the most Christian country in Asia but they are also the most corrupt in the SE Asian archipelago. If you have money in Manila, you can get ANYTHING. I even have a Drivers license from the Philippines, no joke.

Still makes NO sense. I've never met an Asian who is not hard-working. WTF would they support the democrats, the very people who want to take everything away from them?

You didn't build that.

And "social issues" makes no sense either. Chinese think that homosexuality is depraved.

Has nothing to do with "religion". They just flat out think it is wrong.

Jesus’ teaching clearly stated that we would bear fruit, if we are truly His. For the majority of Catholics to vote in favor of someone who has attacked their faith, and who stands diametrically opposed to what they claim to believe...

I firmly believe they will answer to God for that.

And while the majority of self-identified “protestants” voted for Romney, there was still a sizable number who voted for Obama. Again - how can one cast a vote for someone so totally opposite of what you CLAIM to believe?

Yes, indeed - you are known by your fruits...

I think the Catholic vote (52%) includes the 72% Hispanic and Filipino vote who are mainly Catholic. It would be nice to know how white Catholics voted.

I find that Filipinos and Vietnamese usually vote Republican. We have several family friends that are Vietnamese and they came here legally to escape communism. And I agree with one of the sentiments above - there are many Asians and Hispanics that believe our media is truthful and unbiased.
