It was about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday when Detroit police say two armed men attempted to rob a Detroit restaurant.

But an armed customer of Adi Coney Island, 6171 Michigan, who is permitted to carry a concealed firearm, turned the tables on the would-be crooks.

Gunfire erupted and bullets were exchanged. When the smoke cleared, one of the 29-year-old robbers had endured a fatal gunshot wound and later died.

We need to have a parade to celebrate. I wish the same on every armed robber and other violent criminal.

who is permitted to carry

Lucky him, that the government recognizes his God given right.

God gives rights. Governments permit. Sometimes. If the forms are right. In special cases.

That makes my blood run cold.

“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.”

Ezekial. Chapter 25 I think. That boy could preach, but he was harsh. Always with the harsh.

Ringo Starr, maybe.

Lots of Ringos out there.

Some of those kinds of folks know the Preacher's book and Job's pretty well.

Be aware that I don't watch modern media. Don't own a television, don't have your cultural icons as my own.

Your 'ringo' looks like a ringer to me in a bad '70s movie that I avoided by working during that era.

Your little culture doesn't always translate, without context.

yeah you had to have seen the movie to get the reference. Here’s the whole scene:

The robbers picked the wrong guy to mess with. Sorry for the profanity, but it’s part of the movie.

You don't have be sorry for profanity. I were an NCO. I've stepped in it. I've trained it. I've said it.

Not proud of it, but I don't blush about it either.

Do you know why Ezekial is called the Preacher?

There's a story there.

Did you know the song Turn, turn, turn, was based on Eccesiasties?

And the story behind that?

Lots of stuff behind that scene you posted that has historical referants that you may not have fully studied.

It's worth another look. And a little research. I was lucky. I had someone beat some of that into me. You'll just have to find it on your own.

You and other regular FReepers know I’m about the last person in the world to suggest pandering but I do think the way we present ourselves in these situations could be greatly improved upon.

Too often we see stories like this morph into a bashfest of Detroit when should praise the true empowerment that is the subject of the story. A little well deserved praise is a whole lot more valuable than an Obamaphone and free stuff.

I was talking to the father of my little town’s only black family the other day after voting when the conversation turned to Detroit fraud and naturally to race. He said that white conservatives have a bad habit of believing what the race baiters like Jackson and Sharpton say when blacks themselves really know better but use it because they can.

He pointed to the stories of “White Flight” from Detroit and called them crap. He said there weren’t that many whites in the area of the rioting to begin with and more blacks fled the rioting than anyone with his father being one of them. He says the more correct term would be “Business Flight”.

Basically he says the GOP needs to offer more than a slap for bad but correctable behavior. Use the teachable moments wisely. When he moved his family from Jackson a few years ago his kids were well on their way to being typical inner city thugs but living in a farm community has really changed them. Sending his son to a rural school where his only options for friends were white farm boys got his son over the “White man’s plantation” crap in a hurry and he now works on a farm full time.

Glad that it worked for them. I have heard it works the other way as well.

Homicide. Not the same as murder.

They do have the highest justifiable homicide rates in the nation though.
