David Petraeus, the retired four-star general who led the U.S. military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan, abruptly resigned Friday as director of the CIA after admitting he had an extramarital affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, according to a new report.

Interesting background item. At the core of that analysis lies an arabist. Couple that with the FBI investigating her attempts at illegal access to Petraeus’ e-mail and classified documents there’s way more yet to be revealed. I hope that there’s a hot shot counter intelligence team walking the cat back on her entire career and points of access.
Wonder if the pillow talk involved the large CIA Annex command in Benghazi. This thing is far from over. Could be worse than Philby/McLean/Burgess with Profumo thrown in as well.

As far at the truth from Gen. Petraeus, IMO, it depends on his feeling of remorse over his actions, his sense of duty and how much he values his own life. At his level, the most powerful and ruthless men in the world don't like to take chances...

Perhaps this is Petraeus showing integrity (despite the marital transgression). The administration may have used this knowledge to try to sway his testimony next week. Letting the news out himself allows him to speak frankly.

If she is a “whore”, what is he? He went after her.
Sure, he’s responsible too. However, the previous poster’s question, to which I responded, was why she would do it, when she has an attractive husband her own age and young children.
My opinion is that it was the thrill of having the power to F*&* up people’s lives ... probably including her husband’s, why not? I assume hurting her children wasn’t a motive, but you never know.
