A coal company headed by a prominent Mitt Romney donor has laid off more than 160 workers in response to President Obama's election victory.

Murray Energy said Friday that it had been "forced" to make the layoffs in response to the bleak prospects for the coal industry during Obama's second term. In a prayer circulated by the company, CEO Robert Murray said Americans had voted "in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom."

>>It’s not a temper tantrum; it’s a shrug.

Then conservatism is dead. Those 160 employees and their wives have 320 times the voting power of that mine owner. Those people may never trust the rich again.

The rich can shrug and help Obama destroy this country, but people will remember who fed them during their unemployment. Why do you think the people alive during the Great Depression practically worshipped FDR for the rest of their lives? This mine owner and other shruggers are going to make Obama into the next FDR.

How long do you think it will be before the Feds and their environmentalist buddies put a clamp on production up in North Dakota?

From one of the comments:

GenVG @GenVG1

Can anything be done about these employers firing people because Obama won?

Directive 10-289, anyone?

Shut down every privately owned coal company in America! Shut down every private business in America! Bring big government to its knees, stop playing defensive and go on the offense!

union employees had no trouble going on strike when they want higher wages, by God, shut down private businesses now! Stop feeding the beast, then and only then will the American people realize government can't give them every thing they want without first taking it from hard working Americans!

The coal industry is being targeted by the government, shut it down and shut down all power stations! Let the liberals form blowing parties to blow on some wind mills for their power! give them what they have demanded, bigger government, does not mean you have to participate in this nightmare!

SHUT THE HELL DOWN It will be about ten second before the government mouthpieces show up to negotiate a settlement with you!

This caused her "friends" to start sort of mildly ragging on her. Nothing serious. One of them said to her "so you're for fracking." I asked her "what's fracking" and she shrugged and said "I don't know."

Under Obama, we're all fracked.

If there is a genuine business reason for layoffs, they are lamentable but understandable. But hurting innocent people simply because you are a “sore loser” is unworthy and despicable. I am as upset by Obama’s win as anyone. But we need to resist intelligently and humanely.

Perhaps they are laying off because they know Obama’s policies will make it unfeasible to keep so many employees.

Evidently none of those kids are working to help pay their family’s energy bills or sent out to scavenge sticks for firewood. Not yet anyway. Ironically it will be much healthier for them than sitting watching TV or playing video games.

Plenty of shale oil jobs available. I suggest the coal workers get off their asses and head for fracking territory.

Two things wrong with your post. Coal mining is not a lazy man's job - they could teach most of us a bit about getting off our asses. The gov't just announced it's starting to shut down areas that were designated for shale oil.

I just googled “shale oil jobs” and got pages of hits. Time for these guys to grab the bootstraps.

As many of them will likely do - the $h-- has just hit the fan and is still spraying. Give them time to do what they can before denigrating them. It's a pain-in-the-ass, life-changing experience to find yourself out of a job that you worked hard at, and then have to uproot yourself and your family in order to try to reengage. Many may have to go into (or further into) debt to make a move that may or may not pan out. I guess it's always easier to coach from the couch when one is not on the field getting one's butt kicked.

At the very least, it’s nice to see some concern for the unemployed around here. It’s been in short supply lately.
Hopefully it’s not just a case of convenient politics.
