The FBI Has Been Investigating Petraeus' Biographer Over Access To Classified Info

CIA Director David Petraeus resigned over an extramarital affair, according to a letter he sent to CIA staff. The news was confirmed by Press Secretary Jay Carney in a briefing this afternoon.

Slate's Fred Kaplan quickly reported that the affair was with Paula Broadwell — Gen. Petraeus' biographer who was embedded with him in Afghanistan. Now, NBC is reporting that the FBI has been investigating Broadwell, fearing that she had access to some confidential information.

"Gen. Petraeus' biographer who was embedded with him in Afghanistan."

Just like Rielle Hunter was embedded with John Edwards.

My current guess is that the FBI was investigating who leaked the truth about Benghazi, and it's Broadwell that is the target, not Petraeus. So it is Broadwell whose life they want to destroy.

Which would sort of make sense of the history of the affair. The affair started when he was doing well in the desert, and maybe stopped when he started covering for Obama in the CIA. Watching your hero eat cr*p from his boss is not an endearing event.

We did not have an election this past week. As the news reports have been describing, the swing states were all rigged to deliver the win for Obama.

This was planned all along. People postulated as to why Obama seemed so disinterested in the first debate. He knew that the election outcome had already been decided and that he was just going through the motions, trying to figure out when his next tee time was.

Keep your powder dry.

Oh, and that 22nd amendment thingy...???

Expect a case added to the newly packed USSC case-log questioning the very validity of that amendment in 2015.

Obama is there for the longhaul.

Patraeus is like several generals and men in positions of power I have known: they became corrupted by their own sense of importance and began to believe all the fawning adulation from sycophants was really true.

Broadwell reminds me of another ambitious, military academy grad who deliberately used her femininity to entice a powerful man with her sexual charms, and ended up getting ensnared herself.

History will record whether he now chooses "honor" over fear of reprisal from the Administration he served at the end of his career.

Hopefully, if he testifies, he will do so with an acute awareness of history and eternity as his guides.

"Still, the White House, with concurrence by the FBI and Justice Department, held off on asking for Petraeus’ resignation until after the election. His resignation occurred three days after the election, avoiding the possibility that Obama’s ill-fated appointment of Petraeus could become an issue in the election."

They own him. He ceased being any kind of conservative -- if he ever was -- when he took up with Bobo.

-—A chick named Broadwell ( her married name) Imbedded , inbed, whatever, in Afganyland, writing a BOOK called ALL IN. It’s hurting my jaws but check this. This chick is a West Point grad, did a tour, milked the system for some special schooling, Is still in the Army Reserves and is STILL a light colonel. At a minimum General Davy is looking at a fraternization charge ( if there is a camo dress, anyway)-—he might lose his good conduct medal. ( remember the old cartoon? sharp chick is checking out the general’s ribbons in a bar and says “why general, you don’t have a good conduct medal?”). I’m guessing this gal has all the security clearance she needs to diddle Davy AND his email. Something more sparked The FBI to look at Gen. Davy in Afghanyland-—————————————————————————————————————————Remember this whole deal with the bookie chick came up when he was still in the Army running the show in Sandland, the book got published, and Davy kept banging away. These big time operator guys tend to be one dimensional; that is, good at one thing, in this case soldiering, but real putzes in the rest of the world. This whole clusterflock looks to me like serious inbreeding in the West Point officer corp. The air is rare up there and the grads MUST avoid dieting on their own BS.-————That oath we take doesn’t have any opt-outs for cute girls.

Wait, that ended up being Buttugly Bob Menendez (D-NJ) ... wonder if Petraeus was mentioned in any of those guess-the-adulterer threads...

There are still great leaders out there. Gen. Petraeus was available to do what was required at the time. And now after this, his time has passed. There are new leaders always waiting in the wings. Remember it is the continual consciousness of our western way of life that each American either adds to positively, or negatively, like a floating cloud absorbing our breathe of worth, enhanced or diminished.

[So, giving information to our press is treasonous? What are you saying about our press?]

Receiving classified information and publishing it seems to be allowed under the first amendment.

But yes, most would consider it treasonous in spirit if not legally.

Meant somewhat tongue in cheek.

Constitional Defintion of treason:
This word imports a betraying, treachery, or breach of allegiance.

The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort. This offence is punished with death. By the same article of the Constitution, no person shall be convicted of treason, unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

Dictionary definition of treason:
1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

I think this will end up being just a violation of the Secrets law and not treasonous...unless the press is considered an enemy of the State. Big picture, what does that say about the press. :))

Me too, it’s been a very difficult week. Fortunately, my family is understanding. But, I can’t even involve myself in anything remotely sad because I’m right back to the tears.

From A7:

President Barack Obama said Petraeus had led the Central Intelligence Agency “with characteristic intellectual rigor, dedication and patriotism.”

“I am completely confident that the CIA will continue to thrive and carry out its essential mission, and I have the utmost confidence in Acting Director Michael Morell and the men and women of the CIA who work every day to keep our nation safe,” the president said in a written statement.

“Going forward, my thoughts and prayers are with Dave and Holly Petraeus, who has done so much to help military families through her own work. I wish them the very best at this difficult time,” Obama continued.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper issued a statement that did not specify a reason for Petraeus’ departure but praised his colleague extensively.

“From his long, illustrious Army career to his leadership at the helm of CIA, Dave has redefined what it means to serve and sacrifice for one’s country,” said Clapper.

Sources said that the woman whom Petraeus had an affair with is his biographer, a fellow West Point graduate 20 years his junior named Paula Broadwell.

“The full back story is not yet clear,” said the New York Times, “though his affair came to light after FBI agents conducting a criminal investigation into possible security breaches examined his computer e-mails. The decision to step down was his.”

According to Israel’s Channel 2 news, the FBI knew of Petraeus’s indiscretion for months, making it unlikely that the White House did not know of it as well. This raises the question — was the affair kept secret unil the elections, in order to spare the Obama administration embarrassment that could have negatively affected Obama’s chances for reelection?

Petraeus was due to testify next week in hearings regarding the attack on the U.S.’s Benghazi consulate. Fox News reported that he is now not expected to testify in those hearings. “

He must have told them what his testimony would be. Wouldn’t surprise me if he has an “accident” on the way to the hearing.

Yes, IMO, they have known about this affair from the start... maybe even before it began.(honey trap) I think they placed him head of the CIA so they could use him as a fall guy if needed.

“I don’t get it....How does this get him out of testifying about Benghazi?”

It shouldn’t and wouldn’t with any of the rest of us with top secret clearances caught sleeping with a mediot with some classified pillow talk pre and post coital.

$inator Fineswine, immediately said that P wouldn’t be called up, after he resigned.

B$ $inator. If that applied across the board, anyone leaking classified data, could sleep with a mediot ho, resign and confess to the adultry to avoid testifying.
