CIA Director David Petraeus resigned over an extramarital affair, according to a letter he sent to CIA staff. The news was confirmed by Press Secretary Jay Carney in a briefing this afternoon.
Slate's Fred Kaplan quickly reported that the affair was with Paula Broadwell Gen. Petraeus' biographer who was embedded with him in Afghanistan. Now, NBC is reporting that the FBI has been investigating Broadwell, fearing that she had access to some confidential information.

One thing I do know, the second that an FBI agent walked out of one of Petraeus’ subordinates office, that subordinate would have been on the phone to tell Petraeus, “Boss, the FBI was here asking me questions about your relationship with that writer.” Petraeus has known for a while that he was in trouble.
“Fall gay”...was that intentional or just a typo?
Hilarious in either case. :)
He was probably made to fall on his sword.
The resignation was probably forced in order to shut him up.
As a private citizen he can be called but cannot be compelled to testify in detail without clearing everything with the CIA first. Which they will stonewall of course.
And the real blackmail is this investigation, not the affair. They still have a hold on him (and her).
Paula Broadwell is a West Point graduate who pursued a career in military intelligence.
The thing of it is, I hear you about Morris and some of the others, but what makes me continue to scratch my head is Michael Barone. Isn’t he regarded as pretty much on the money when it comes to his analysis of polls and elections through the years. When I heard him say that he felt Romney would win, that’s when I started to become “cautiously optimistic”.
“And have you seen the picture of the woman in question she is very hott.”
A real temptress, that she is.
I was asked few years ago by some associates if I would ever cheat on my wife.
My response was:
“No, because:
1. I love my wife.
2. I wouldn’t want to explain my affair to my two grown sons. And,
3. I saw the film “Fatal Attraction!” It’s the best training flick for any guy who even thinks he wants to cheat on his wife!”
Do you have any idea what the mission of the NSA is? Think guys with taped up glasses doing hacks to crack 128 bit encryped codes.
That's not honey traps by any stretch of the imagination.
She may be spooky, but she ain't cashing checks from No Such Agency.

Yes, I don't think anyone in the Obama camp ever dreamed he would win. A host of circumstances worked in synergy to give him the election, and I'll bet he was just as much taken by surprise as anybody else.
“I saw the film Fatal Attraction! Its the best training flick for any guy who even thinks he wants to cheat on his wife!”
I couldn’t believe that film when I saw it. If one doesn’t know the person one is dealing with, and he didn’t - it was just a one night stand for him, one could become dead.
With just the diseases we have today, I don’t see how a man can risk a one night stand. Add “certifiable crazy”, and stay away from a one night stand.
LOL, yeah I saw my typo after I hit submit.
And let the record show that Petraeus' affair was not gay.
Before folks go all conspiracy theory....remember that sometimes an affair is just that. He would be the first high ranking officer to stray while he was away?
He just forgot to leave it on the field.
The broad can well write my biography any time, mister!
maybe she is on the Chicago payroll
If true, that as a private citizen he has to clear testimony with the CIA first, then he should have resigned after his testimony.
Now I wonder how it was that Slate was able to report this so quickly?
I believe this is the case.
And the point of the resignation would be to do so before being asked to testify, for the purpose of inhibiting testimony. At least going by this theory.
We’ll see.
I was a school counselor and went to a state convention and one night a fellow wanted me to go with him for that kind of activity. I told him sure, if you agree in writing to continue to pay for my son's schooling at Rice University and keep me in the style to which I am accustomed. He said he couldn't afford to do that, and he left. Affairs have consequences and this fellow didn't measure up. I had a wonderful husband and no one could be better than he was to me. That fellow didn't have a chance.
Did anyone find it odd that he asked for “permission” to resign? Is that normal?
Or maybe a threat was intoned to him first like how to testify and he asked can I resign instead.
MasonGal, I know, I know Barone is a big one but after Tuesday the pit of my stomach has felt like it did back during summer when Justice Roberts (supposed to be one of ours) kicked me in the stomach with that frigging healthcare vote and then the little toad slinks off to teach for the summer in Malta. I will never get over that vote or Tuesday’s. I actually felt like I had been you know “molested or raped” just used and dirty. I cried most of the night and Wednesday I felt like throwing up. My husband kept walking into my office, asking me are you sick? That knot in the pit of my stomach is still there tonight. I won’t ever forget what they’ve done. I only hope I will be able to find where to channel all this !@#$%^& rage.
They could have just asked the Israelis and bypassed the FBI investigation.
This is scary, the useful idiot that is Betray Us has been eaten, If I were an Obama “Useful Idiot” I would be shitting bricks right now...
FBI clue number one: “ - - - biographer who was embedded with him - - - . “
Obama is going “Stalin”.
He's still a Clinton butt boy. I saw that in the 2008 election. He was definitely working for Hillary.
First thing Hillary will do is get as much dirt on someone as she can.
The intel community follows this site, and with as much down time as it's had lately, someone here has something right about Libya.
You can always tell who the intel bunch is by how much they write to say very little.
They will write a whole paragraph and still not say what a normal person can say in a sentence. Too ignorant to get away from the govt speak.
Fox news said something about blackmail. I wonder if the White House knew about this before the election and was pressuring him to wait till after the election forcing him to stick to the videotape story. /Tin Foil Hat
LOL
This whole affair bring to mind my wish that some insider would spill all the beans about everything.
And I mean EVERYTHING.

Sorry for the double post, ya’ll
Chicago politics comes to America.
Well you can bet your hat and the house cat that Hillathe Hun has all those beans on her coffee table where she keeps everything else, FBI files, ashtrays, Bill’s cue balls..... and at the designated time (to maximize fallout) she will dust that coffee table. It will be like the Christening scene from the Godfather. Dont’ forget she still owes Panetta for backing odumbo during the primary. She’s saving up something special for the Bamster.
It's not illegal if the President does it. (I've heard that somewhere before).
I know how you feel. I cried Tuesday and Wednesday, as well. I remember feeling like this when Clinton was elected...as if I was in some type of fog...I literally did not want to get out of bed...this election was much, much worse. I think I’m finally beginning to get out of the crying phase of the mourning, and now I’m in the middle of the “whining” phase. Then hopefully, “chin up”, “shoulders squared”, and march forward (no - not Obummer’s forward, either)...Our country is SO worth it. (ain’t gonna be easy, though!) Tough, tough, times ahead. And now, having an 8-month old grandson puts a whole new dimension and outlook to things. I babysat him today, and I just kept thinking about what it will very be like for him...not the country I recognize, that’s for sure.

Uhhh, yes, more than likely .. but I’ve no idea what that has to do with my post above ?!

Who knew it was easier to gain access to the soil in Peatraeus’ shorts than soil of Benghazi.
You're right. Mitch Rapp wouldn't have done that.
Or would he? Bond, James Bond, would have.
Special Report brought that up. If that is true Obama is in deep trouble. Politics above National Security.
I have a different take on what sort of deal Petraeus may have struck. I say he threatened to resign BEFORE the election unless Obama agreed to go easy on his paramour. Info on Benghazi was the coin Petraeus held to make sure his leverage remained post-election. Just a guess.
“I dont get it....How does this get him out of testifying about Benghazi?”
It shouldn’t but in national politics resigning apparently makes you immune. Pigsley, if you and I were running a solar panel company and were accused of stealing a half billion, resigning would NOT get us out of that first meeting with a judge.
But if a politician resigns, especially a dem politician, apparently he’s off the hook. When I’m in charge that will change believe me.
Never went through the whining stage. I went right to the I hate everything and everyone stage. Now am at stage of growling, snarling, and sulking mixed with intermittent spells of maniacal screeching, like Howard Dean then collapsing into a heap, waiting for blood pressure to fall. The psychiatrist story Drudge posted a day or so ago about post-election depression was right but I thought it would damn sure be the other guys that would experience it.
So, giving information to our press is treasonous? What are you saying about our press?
“”He fell on his sword for Obama.””
He was a fool to accept the post at CIA to begin with. That day is when I crossed him out of the “honorable” military men category! He showed what he was then. zero hooked him and reeled him in and he was only too happy to go along with “the enemy.” Zero needed him to kiss his patootie and he obliged!
If not the Rooskies or the Chicoms or the Pakitanis, etc., etc.
Sounds like blackmail to me....The CEO of Lockheed Martin resigned today too....citing he had an xtra martial affair hmmmmmmmmm...Lockheed martin layed off alot of people...which by law requires a 60 day notice...but Obama waived that law..sooooooo on Nov 1st alot of people were layed off ,but not reported till today.....
Exactly, and if he testifies, he can tell the truth, what are they going to do? Fire him?
Panetta a very old man and he is retiring isn’t he ?
No revenge possible on him.
Yeah i guess he was “all in”..
As a private citizen he can’t talk about classified matters unless the CIA (under new management) explicitly vet everything he says.
