Federal Workers Want Pay Raise in Obama's Second Term
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | November 9, 2012 | Michael Patrick Leahy

Posted on 11/09/2012 11:22:20 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

With President Obama safely re-elected to a second term, federal workers feel comfortable to make their demands known. As debate rages over lowering the federal deficit, they want a pay raise.

As CNN's Money magazine reports:

[Union president Colleen M.] Kelley said her No. 1 issue right now is getting federal worker salaries unfrozen on Jan. 1, even if that means working out a deal later in the year and making pay hikes retroactive to Jan. 1.

In the midst of that, federal workers are also nervous about the fiscal cliff , which includes $1.2 trillion worth of spending cuts over a decade if Congress fails to act by Jan. 1. Some 277,000 workers -- 14% of the federal work force -- could lose their jobs in the next 12 months if the U.S. cannot avoid the cliff, according to a study by the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University.

A recent study by two scholars at the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation showed that the average federal employee currently makes significantly more than their private sector counterparts. As the authors wrote in the Wall Street Journal this past April, two additional studies supported their analysis:

When the public pay debate began to simmer two years ago, we were among the few analysts to show that many public employees—federal, state and local, including public school teachers—are paid more than what their skills would merit in the private economy...

Of course, they’re feeling the rise in the cost of living the man they voted for caused. Now they want a raise.

Wait til sequestration takes effect.

They’ll be losing their jobs, too.

Dumb tools.

There will be no cuts and federal workers won’t be fired but they will get a raise. All obama has to do is sign an EO and it becomes law. Then Bernanke prints money and they all get a raise. What they’re too damn dumb to understand is that they will get more dollars, but the dollars won’t buy as much. But, hey, they work for the government. They don’t have to be smart.

I know a nurse who moved here from England because he didn’t like working in their healthcare system. So, he votes for obama so he can have obamacare. He thinks health costs should be lowered.

These type people simply do not understand simple ‘rithmetic. I used to explain to customers who were trying to beat me down on the price. I would say “A well made widget costs $5 to make. It’s sold for $7. That $2 is what we call profit. So, if the cost to make it goes up but it’s still sold for the same price, the quality will go down and it will be an inferior widget. The other option is to either raise the price or close the business.”

It’s the same with healthcare. For costs to go down, quality will have to go down and wages for the healthcare workers, such as nurses, must go down. They don’t like it if you can get their attention long enough to explain it to them. Doctors, nurses, techs, venders, all will make less. And there will be lots of layoffs.

I can only guess that to be a democrat you have to have failed 7th grade math.

I propose that all of the top tier government employees, especially the SESers, take a 20 PER CENT pay cut as a show of solidarity with all the people who have just lost their jobs this week and all the others who will up through Jan. 1st.

That is the least they can do to “feel their pain”. My exceptions would be military leaders in the field, as well as Intelligence operatives, Embassy staff personnel, all military combat personnel (and their field logistics staff), and Military Policemen wherever they are.

Those in the government making over $150,000 can take a 15% cut back. It won’t hurt if you learn to eat Lean Cuisines once in a while instead of steak.

If the Democrats want real tax reform, let’s start with them.

Oh, by the way, for Hollywood moguls and high paid actors/actresses, it’s a 50% cut above what they already pay. Hell, they earn more in one movie than most of us earn in 20 years of honest work.

Let’s start with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Michael Moore, Harvey Weinstein, Whoopi Goldberg, etc. Let’s see how dedicated they are in “redistributing the wealth, their wealth.”

Waiting, waiting, waiting! Bueller, Bueller, Bueller!

A guy I know was at a gov’t construction site for the Monday morning meeting. The gov’t project manager was pleading (can’t demand or yell - the union would nail him for harassment) with his workers to work harder. “If you guys can just give me 4 good hours every day we’ll be back on track in 6 weeks!”. (They “work” four 10-hour days!) So out of forty hours a week, the manager has to PLEA for an honest 16 hours of work - and no doubt didn’t get it.

Hmmm. Sounds to me like the FED needs to lay off half their workers. Or more. Seriously.

A girl I know worked for social security admin. for 10 years and gets 3k/month retirement from it. She also gets s/s from other jobs. On top of this she is now filthy rich - just sold a 2.7M house which is only a portion of her real estate.
And...she and her husband are Obama supporters, think he’s done a good job, and I was told this week that she brags that they don’t pay taxes because she knows the loopholes.

Not sure how she justifies all this but doubt she loses a second of sleep over it.

Your health care analogy is flawed. You left out the large number of people to whom you need to provide “free” widgets when they show up at your counter...thus increasing the cost of the widgets for the rest of your paying customers.

Of course, that will NEVER be addressed...I’m still pissed at Reagan for signing that law back in the 80’s. Of course, it wasn’t entirely his fault...the law indicated that you ostensibly had to provide a basic no-frills widget. But NO, you decided to provide those who show up for free widgets with equal (possibly superior) product.

Sorry....LOL! I know that you are well aware of that, and the end result is the same...I’m just pissed.

Once again... The Federal Government has become a nation
state unto itself. It is NOT a government OF the people.. it
is a government wholly APART from the people.

It will rule us like a country that it has invaded and
conquered and occupied. It will confiscate as much money from
us as it sees fit to, just like war reparations.

We ARE NOT free. We are no better off than we were under
King George in 1776.

While thousands of workers are losing their jobs and others getting cut to 29 hours a week, these selfish, bloated government workers want more money?

Ok, I can’t take much more of this sh**.

At this stage of the game the best thing that could happen is a complete collapse of economy, the dems would get credit for that, and we (the working people) would get the gubmint reset we so desperately need.

I know there would be much suffering, financial loss, and loss of human life, however, that is the quickest way back to freedom from here.

Like I said in another post, so far we’ve had several of the mega rich renounce their citizenship and leave the country to avoid the mega-taxes. I would too rather than allow communists to steal my money. I imagine this is going to happen or has happened much like people storming a door in a movie theater on fire, especially before the communists come up with a law to steal it even if they do renounce. So where is the admitted foreign born unconstitutionally elected Kenyan going to get all this money to pay his minions in our new communist government?
