Though many of the state margins were narrow President Obama ran the table winning every swing or battleground state with the possible exception of Florida where votes are still being counted as of 5:30 this morning.
President Obama also won the popular vote by 2 million votes. The President won 303 electoral votes to 206 for Romney. We knew about 11 pm that the President had won when Ohio was called for him.
Democrats also held the Senate. Elizabeth Warren won with a good margin in Massachusetts. Claire McKaskill won in Missouri beating Akin-he of the legitimate rape comment. Joe Donnelly also won in Indiana beating Republican Mourdock. Warren won by eight percentage points. Donnelly won in Indiana by 6 percentage points. Sherrod Brown won re-election. Tammy Baldwin won becoming the first openly gay Senator. Democrats picked up seats in the Senate.
Progressives like you worked their hearts out all over America for our people, our country, our president, and progressive Democrats. We fought and beat the tea party, the oligarchs and massive rich, Karl Rove's strategy, ALEC, the Koch Brothers, and all those who would tear down democracy and destroy the middle class and the labor movement. Women spoke strongly. Latinos spoke strongly. The LGBT community spoke strongly. And AFRICAN-AMERICANS fought back against the neo-poll taxes and disenfranchisement.
And as always our labor movement provided the President a foundation of support, energy, and strong presence.
The truth for progressives is that we are slowly winning the battle of ideas, future constituents, policies of justice. This election was won with progressive constituencies and a PROGRESSIVE AGENDA.
The President won with huge healthcare reform that we must continue working on and commitment to the middle class and acommitment to workers and unions and collective bargaining.
Republicans wake up this morning scratching their heads realizing they have lost 5 of 6 Presidential popular votes.
Now we must begin to think about how we build on this great victory to build a big struggle on America's biggest issues - inequality, investment in America and jobs (the agenda Dr. Richard Levins and I laid out in Getting America Back to Work), collective bargaining, honoring workers, respect for every person in America.
We in the labor movement must continue to protect and expand collective bargaining - and to lay the foundation for the opportunity to create a struggle and perhaps a movement that addresses the economic issues of the middle class and THE POOR. We have to think outside our membership and act like the voice of all working families embracing new forms of organizational structures that work when the all or nothing NLRB fails or is irrelevant. We must act with boldness. NOW IS THE TIME TO END 35 YEARS OF WAGE STAGNATION and TO PUSH HISTORY FORWARD.
It seems to be a rather hollow victory wining in the spirit of AL CAPONE!
That’s funny. Two pro commie union backed power grab proposals went down hard in Michigan and a county by county analysis shows they only two counties voted for them. Even the most liberal county in Mi. (washtenaw) voted them down.
We held all the GOP held house seats from Michigan and even flipped one from moderate to tea party.
Where does it say they’re afilliated with the “Communist Party”?
Interesting. Just what would be the topic of discussion in Caracas, if Chavez were to have dinner with one of his yes-meh.. I mean, with the heads of one of its states.
Yes,You won Stewart. If the country falls into a cvil war,I’ll be looking for you.
...The editorial mission is partisan to the working class, people of color, women, young people, seniors, LGBT community, to international solidarity; to popularize the ideas of Marxism and Bill of Rights socialism. The websites enjoy a special relationship with the Communist Party USA, founded in 1919, and publish its news and views...
If their actions resemble the communists philosophy, they are communists. Whether we call them part of the party or not.
Down at the bottom of the page it says that "People's World" is affiliated with the Communist Party USA and the Young Communist League.
“You know, comrades,” says Stalin, “that I think in regard to this: I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will count the votes, and how.”
The People's World (PW) is a news web site associated with the Communist Party USA.
The People's World / Mundo Popular, formerly the People's Weekly World / Nuestro Mundo (Spanish title: Our World) is a national, grassroots weekly newspaper and the direct descendant of the Daily Worker, the east coast Communist Party daily newspaper, which was founded in 1924, and the Communist Party's west coast daily newspaper, The Daily People's World. Published by Long View Publishing Co., the PW reports on and analyzes what it sees as the pressing issues and struggles of the day: for workers rights, peace, equality, social and economic justice, democracy, civil liberties, womens rights, protection of the environment, and more.
The PW is funded by its supporters and published by a small staff, and a network of volunteers. The newspaper is a member of the International Labor Communications Association.
On January 1, 2010, the People's World became an online-only publication.
“Future constituencies” is where they are winning.
Irony: we won the battle over the communists...but they may have won the war.
A lot of the "Marxist" talk is just bunk, but actually, the People's World is a website affiliated with the Communist Party. It's a direct descendant of the Daily Worker and Daily People's World.
That Communists are overjoyed at the election of Obama comes... with a yawn. Of course they are. Democrats should be more than embarrassed that those with a totalitarian ideology and linked to a history of global genocidal oppression should welcome the Democrat standard bearer’s re-election. But we here at FR are not at all surprised.
I predict a broad and in-depth reexamination of the past warnings of the John Birch Society, and even of the career of Joe McCarthy, as their prognostications of the corrosive and insidious destruction of our country by “progressive-ism” ever more clearly come to reality.
Typical Commies’s rhetoric.
USSR collapsed, Red China has already become Commie In Name Only.
Europe and US commies are forced to seek new platform to survive.
Nobody can deny claims of the POTUS being communist now, looks like. All that one needs to do to win that argument is wave this article in the faces of opponents.
No, Red China’s still communist. Attracting capitalist businesses to its shores is a means to an end, that end being institution of worldwide communism when they’re strong enough to push that agenda. Worked here, didn’t it?
