Just had a rather strong and lengthy earthquake here in East Tennessee. The event started with a sudden shake, then a pause, then a lengthy quake of significant magnitude, I would estimate to be in the range of 3 to 4. Is this event connected to shaking in other areas? How is that mountain side in the Azores(?) which is capable of sending a massive tsunami toward the East Coast fairing? Ant word from other freepers out there?
Nothing here in Texas.
4.3 eastern kentucky
Ping.
(wrong end of the state, though)
4.3
The Russians gave it a 3.9
In SWVA. Thought I felt an odd vibration/shaking a short while ago. Didn’t think much of it. Could have been it.
My sis in Ohio felt it. My nephew in Ky felt it. Sis Called me to ask if it was an earthquake.
I’m in WV didn’t feel it.
The Chinese abstain in protest.
there was another odd one this morning just south of Miss/Alabama a weird place to have a quake.
God is merely displaying his anger with 50 % of the population being left wing imbeciles who hate babies, love homosexuals and their marriages, are apparently okay with promiscuous sex, sluts, and doing away with God altogether!
More to come.
This nation has become the worst nation in the world and that after all the graces of God going for it!
What’s next?
just felt what I would call a tremor for about 5-6 seconds in Knoxville area. Someone on line said it originated in Arkansas. My wife Is up in the mountains near the N.C border. Said they felt nothing up there.
Was felt in Louisville. (Not me, I remain blissfully ignorant.)
Obviously Bush’s fault...
The days of blissfully ignorant.... ahhhhhh :)
Exploding moonshine still.
Felt it .... SE WV....dog went crazy...log cabin on the hill made a lot of pop’n sounds...
I am wondering if this may be a foretaste of a New Madrid slippage. A 6 o 7 in that faukt line would be massively damaging since the line runs through major metro areas which have tall buildings built on the fault line since the last big shake there. Reelfoot lake was created the last time that fault slipped significantly and the Mississippi ran ‘backwards’ for a time.
Thanks so much for the link!

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) — Around 12:10 p.m. Saturday afternoon, residents throughout the entire Tennessee Valley felt the earth move.
The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed a 4.3 magnitude earthquake approximately 8 miles west of Whitesburg, Kentucky, which is 46 miles north/northwest of Kingsport, Tennessee.
The temblor shook large portions of the Southeastern United States.
For more info:
“a lengthy quake of significant magnitude”
Significant magnitude?
That’s no more than a squrrel fart here in Southern California!
I’m in Nashville but didn’t feel it.
Of course I’ve also been putting quarters in the “Magic Fingers” machine here at the motel all morning, so that may have muted the effect for me.

Well when the squirrel farts big enough and California drops in the ocean, we will all cheer for you. You finally got a big one.
i was wondering about that myself after i saw the Miss one this morning? This is at least 3 miles short (depth) of the usual quakes in this fault. This wasn’t even a mile deep and it’s not along the immediate New Madrid (western Kentucky). Odd. (but what do i know as a lover of science but no expert?)
Felt it in Atlanta.
We had a little shaking here in Louisville... nothing major.
But, I heard the wall ornaments rattling.
It was centered Southeast of Hazard, KY and Northwest of Big Stone Gap, VA. Closer to Hazard looks like on the map.
if this indicates anything with the NM fault, well it could make all other disasters look pale in comparison from what I have read or heard from experts!
Eastern side of the U.S. is getting hammered-Nor’Easter, earthquake, Obama...
4.3 Near Whitesburg.
LOL!
Christie must have taken up jogging.
Someone here was posting a list of potentially deadly earthquakes striking worldwide over the next two months...he posted it on several thread, but I can’t seem to locate it. Does anyone remember who was posting those?
Felt it strong here about 20 mi. west of Knoxville, TN.
When we moved from CA, we thought that would be the end of earthquakes.
We are blessed with multiple faults that break up, dampen and scatter vibration.
They are on a solid plate that can ring like a bell.
Thanks for the thread. Stay well.
Must be part of the Eastern Tenn Seismic Zone. Quake large enough to be felt in this area, info says, occur ONCE a year, although it is active with small quakes.
Did the earth move for you, too?
~.~
Were the Mayans right? Is December 21, 2012 the end? Makes one wonder.
I’m near Cincinnati, Ohio. I felt it and heard it, seemed like it went on for several seconds. At first I thought it was the neighbor up stairs being very rowdy.
Maybe a dumb question,
But would this seismic activity be considered ‘normal’ for this area?
What I mean is, the media always makes out that almost every earthquake is nothing special and has always been happening, perhaps so, but still there are folks living in these areas (in the Midwest for example) in recent years, that neither they nor their grandparents have ever felt one before,
I am sure he is happy it happen although a little late.
Was that the data recorder on their nuke-sub just offshore? ;)
