President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner on Saturday repeated their willingness to work for a bipartisan agreement to avert the automatic spending cuts and tax increases slated to begin early next year.
If the U.S. is serious about reducing the deficit, we have to combine spending cuts with revenue and that means asking the wealthiest Americans to pay a little more in taxes.Obama said in his weekly address, reiterating a stance made often during his re-election campaign.
Calling on Congress to pass the middle-class tax cuts for 98% of Americans, the president said since both parties agree on it, theres no reason to wait. Watch the video.
Delivering the weekly Republican address, Boehner, an Ohio Repubolican, congratulated Obama on his re-election and voiced support for a bipartisan effort to avert the fiscal cliff, but stressed shoring up the entitlement program that Boehner termed the primary driver of the nations increasing deficit.

Obama’s idea of ‘compomise’ is to tell congress what he wants and call them ‘obstructionist’ if they don’t rubber-stamp his job-killing tax hikes. This will not end well for any of us.
“I won”...
Get ready for SHTF type stuff when the system crashes. If you have not started, then you`d better begin stocking up on consumables, it`ll get ugly.
The GOP just needs to keep pounding it as “let the Bush tax cuts expire”. The country so believes anything with Bush’s name on it benefits the rich and harms everyone else. Let the tax cuts expire and let sequestration take place.
What a crock. The SOB doesn't need Congress or any legislation to "ask" for anything, he only needs his microphone.
No, he's not planning to "ask", he's planning to "demand".
This is ridiculous. If they took every penny the top 2% earn it won’t dent the deficit.
I say let the tax cuts expire. Then when people get their first paycheck in January and wonder why it’s so much less than usual then maybe they’ll understand that everyone who pays taxes benefited from the tax cuts. Otherwise they’ll keep believing the BS that the left and Obama keep spewing.
Better approach:
Let the tax cuts NOT expire by extending them IN FULL and let sequestration take place.
Let Obama veto THAT so HE owns the tax increases.
Never fear Boehner’s in tears. And caving in to the Dems as fast as possible.
