In this democracy the American people decided to reelect a GOP majority in the House. Why? Isn't this as much a reaffirming of GOP views as Mr Obama's relection?
Ans: to even out giving even more of a majority to Dem. Senate?
But, but, obamacare is the law of the land. This POS makes me sick, and I’m from OH. I want a new speaker. We need to start a campaign between now and January. He needs to sit at the back of the room and cry his little heart out. He’s as stupid as stupid can be if he thinks Americans want him to bow to the Dems.
Most races are voted on individually and not based on some national swing one way or the other.
We might have lost more seats if Republicans hadn't gerrymandered districts back in favor of the GOP.
I would take little comfort from what happened to the House in this last election.
American by and large wants to tax the rich so they can keep their government goodie bags filled.
Dems only needed the President and senate right now ,they’ll steal the house in 2014
There was no penalty for opposing Obama; there was no penalty for running the debt negotiations on and on with all of the negative publicity directed against them. Oppose and investigate, that’s what you’re there for, because it’s what’s best for the country. He gave away the biggest entitlement there was with healthcare, yet he has half the victory margin he did in ‘08. He won’t have anything else that big to pull out of Santa’s bag.
You are aware that the Republicans loss, what, 10 seats? To me the message is “cut the carp and get back to governing”...
The obama phone people tend to be packed together in urban areas. Dem congress critters when with 80% of the vote, while GOP win with 54%
Moreover, I suspect the GOP House Members got a higher percentage of the vote (est. 53-47) than did President Obama (currently 50-48). <
That should stand for something, I should think.
That will be a disaster
2014 would be the last of the elections ,no need for any more
We live in a republic not a democracy, yet.
I have been saying this for a while. This was probably the last shot for a Republican President. Increasing socialism and demographic changes lock in dem control. This doesn’t mean we give up. Never give up. If we get good candidates we can win governorships and congress seats. Even the Presidency is possible but there are some mighty headwinds. It would take a Reagan or unusually gifted candidate to win the Presidency.
this nation really needs to revolt and find out who the real winner of the election is...
In the spirit of bipartisanship and compromise, the Republicans should step aside, and give control of the House back to Pelosi.
Universal Suffrage imposed via Constitutional Amendment has transformed the USA into a sure to fall Representative Democracy, something the Founders warned against, and why they were adamant about not putting the right to vote into the Constitution.
The following countries are categorized by the Democracy Index 2011 as Full democracy:
5. New Zealand
16. Czech Republic
18. United Kingdom
19. United States
20. Costa Rica
22. South Korea
Please, the plural of an American is Americans - we are Americans, not American’s.
Both parties suffer from projecting their beliefs onto the results of an election. The bottom line is 13 million voters from 2008 did not even deem it worth voting in 2012. Obama lost 10 million and Romney lost 3 million. The presidential election gets out the casual voters who overwhelm the voters that pay attention, while the off year elections just gets out the voters that pay attention.
Even then, the presidential election has come down to Ohio and Florida out of all the states since the Gore/Bush election. That is almost two decades of elections with a perfectly split United States. Dems win NE, great lakes, and west coast, and need to pick off Ohio “or” Florida to seal the deal. Repubs win the heartland and south and need to pick off Ohio “and” Florida to seal the deal.
What does it mean each election cycle when one side wins? Not a whole lot as the key battle ground states often are delivered by a total of a few hundred thousand votes. This country could not be more evenly divided. Even with the flood of illegal immigrants it is still neck and neck. The biggest problem is the 20 somethings being indoctrinated as they are a huge group. But they also are getting a healthy cup of watching their idealism get dashed by reality. The other thing to remember is the left is not popping out kids (abortions, kids are a nuisance, etc.) and this demographic could also come back to get them.
If things continue with the Fed emulating France, the Red states will opt out and we will see a move back to state rights as the Fed goes bankrupt and crashes the system trying to put a chicken in every pot. In a way, the sooner this happens the better as the casual voters will never wake up as long as Uncle Sam is taking care of them. The bigger thing to fear is that we have become super polarized as a nation and the U.S. could well split if this is maintained. From a historical stand point, Republics are fragile and if you don’t work at keep them unified they can disappear. The founding fathers often warned us about this when they framed the government.
The bottom line is nation states evolve very slowly and we will survive Obama, so take a deep breath and don’t let yourself get demoralized by the media talking heads trying to push their mandates and cult of personality on the basis of him winning this election.
You're assuming he knows the definition of the word "plural."
Stupid people use a lot of apostrophes to make themselves look smarter.
Why fight like dog’s and cat’s over it?
Makes me wonder if the Obama voters just marked the ballot for him and didn’t bother with the rest.
