Peacefully grant the State of Louisiana to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government. As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

So, a Louisiana resident (maybe) created this petition on the whitehouse.gov site to request that LA separate peacefully from the US.

Warning: you have to create an account to sign this petition.

6941 signatures so far.

Only 18,000 more needed before Obama blows it off.

Do we have anything else to do these days?

Can Louisiana blow off its share of the 16,000,000,000,000 debt this way? If so, this makes a lot of economic sense.

As much as I hate that place I’d move there if it left the union. Of course we know that won’t happen. It won’t even happen in Texas.

I was born there. When I left, I said ‘I’m never going back. It’s too damn hot.’

12 states and a few decades later, I’m in New Hampshire, and well, LA is looking pretty good. Not New Orleans, but rural LA.

IIRC there is only one state that can leave the union. Montana, Nebraska, or possibly Wyoming. They joined with the agreement that they could leave without penalty if their legislature so voted.

Being landlocked would cause serious problems as would being able to defend their borders or conduct business with the remaining states.

Leaving the union sounds attractive but it doesn’t make sense with the exception of large states with ports.

Instead of seceding the state to end their U.S. citizenship, perhaps the people signing the petition should have their U.S. citizenship revoked for assisting the Communists to divide and conquer the United States with treasonous advocation of secession.

Do you not agree with the Declaration of Independence then? Were the Founding Fathers traitors? Do you have a brain? Questions cannot be answered with an uncritical mind. Your’s qualifies.

LOL,like San Francisco NOLA is nice, it’s the people who have those cities so messed up. True the weather is probably better in SF but then there are the earthquakes.

Both are better than the dang winter cold above the Mason-Dixon.

So... Congress ignores the Constitution for years, yet you think that the States should obey the Constitution. Interesting thought process you have going on there.

Montana has a more than 500 mile border with Canada. Although a port would be great, it is not necessary. Hell, palm trees would be great too...

No I didn’t say that. Walter Williams has often said the states should ling ago have surrounded federal buildings with National Guard troops. I agree with that.

I was just stating that one state did have enough foresight to leave an out.

Not to rain on Louisiana’s parade,BUT . . . their own history disproves the ability of any state to secede from the Union.

Thin blood FRiends! Thin, thin blood! I like nothing better than heading out for a 6AM jog in the woods in the New England January.

Seasons--the one thing I'll miss if I ever manage to escape this crazy state.

An older fellow I work with grew up in Montana in the 30’s and 40’s, and has written many stories about it.

One good one is how in the winter every farm house had ropes strung from the back door to the out buildings. That was because the snow was so deep or falling so intensely people could become disoriented.

He says he would never go back to live there.

I was born is Saskatchewan Kanada. Atlantic winters there make the New England winters look like Florida. If La. secedes or even Texas, I would move there. I don’t even know why we have to ask p-resident Jarjar for permission when half the voting population did not even vote for him.

Oh the seasons are nice and an occasional outing in the cold isn’t bad. I’ve been known to shovel knee deep snow in a kilt.

But after decades of HAVING to walk a couple of miles back and forth to work in the dead of winter and doing the nightshift, I prefer a warmer clim.

KY, TN and the inland Carolinas would be just fine!
