Ice Cream Store Worker Fired After Posting Racial Slur About Obama On Facebook By NBC News staff A California woman has been fired from her job as an ice cream store manager after she referred to President Barack Obama with a racial slur on Facebook and wrote “maybe he will get assassinated.”

Denise Helms, 22, of Turlock, posted the Facebook statement on Tuesday night after Obama won re-election to a second term. The post referred to the president using the N word. “Maybe he will get assassinated this term..!!” Helms wrote, according to the Modesto Bee. Helms later deleted the post after negative reaction to it began circulating on social media.

In an interview with FOX40 News on Thursday, Helms wasn’t apologetic about what she posted and maintained she is not a racist. “The assassination part is kind of harsh,” Helms told FOX40. “I’m not saying I’d go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen I don’t think I’d care one bit.”

Helms worked at the Cold Stone Creamery franchise store in Turlock. The national Cold Stone Creamery chain tweeted Thursday night that Helms "is no longer w/ the company."

why do people think nothing will happen to them if they post things under their own name.

Facebook is not a real good thing to belong to....and if you must, work up a good alias.

Interesting responses in the comments section...

Free Speech has consequences kind of comments.

Can and should a business have the authority to fire you for non-criminal actions taken off duty?

Essentially what some of those comments are saying is if you are involved with an activity outside of work, that they don’t agree with as a core value you can be fired.

How many of us can be fired for posting on the extremist site known as Free Republic?

Ditto that. I don’t care what people’s social status is each day nor do I think they care that a leaf fell in my yard.

Land of the Free? Maybe, years ago.
How much of a short step is it from this to “Slander of
the State” and a ten year term?

Look. I’m as pissed off as anyone about the election (well, mostly the Senate. A POTUS Romney would have killed conservatism. At least we are on life support). But I don’t care who it is, there is no place for these kinds of comments against anyone. I’d have fired her.

And the First Amendment doesn’t apply. It only applies to State action. This is a private Corp.

Be angry. Comment, argue and scream ... but threats and this (hers) reaction is childish and demeans conservatism.

Where in the First Amendment does it prevent an employer from firing someone?

Can your extremist quotes. It is politically incorrect speech and subject to Homeland Security investigation for possible terror connections.

Act like an idiot, you may get fired. The first amendment has nothing to do with this, and it’s embarrassing to read FReepers thinking it does.

Good answer to anyone critical of FR for censorship, rules, guidelines, banning, etc. It's always the owner's prerogative.

So let’s say you go to a Romney political rally and your boss finds out...fires you...you’re ok with that?

I know some FReeper business owners are looking to fire the 0bamabots working for them ...that’s ok too?

Used to be you left your private life at the door and your work life at the door on the way out.

“And the First Amendment doesn’t apply. It only applies to State action.”

True enough. But then, “To secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men...”

The First Amendment is to protect against government violation, but government is supposed to protect against violation by others. That leaves open the question of whether or not a violation occurred in this case.

If you owned a business, in these trying times, would you let some dummy (in your employ) threaten the viability of your business? There’s no 1st Amendment controversy here. The government’s not involved. The lesson is keep your mouth shut when not among people who think like you do.

That makes the news, yet the ineligibility of Hussein to even hold office, has not been a issue to 99.9% of America.

His father was a foreigner. That makes Hussein ineligible. He’s not a natural born US citizen. Where he was born is harder to prove, but Hussein’s own voice on his audio book blabs on and on about his Kenyan father.

Dumb cluck threatens on FaceBook,,,,Usurper in office for 8 years destroys America,,,,hmm which is more important?

“Act like an idiot, you may get fired. The first amendment has nothing to do with this, and it’s embarrassing to read FReepers thinking it does.”

True, but the troubling part is possible prosecution. The 1st amendment protects idiots from themselves.
By the way, this is how we’re able to identify liberals. Of course a homicidal ice scream scooper would probably have been promoted to manager for wishing bad things for Bush, circa 2007 or so.
As we’ve seen, they enforce the laws they like and ignore the ones they don’t.

“A Secret Service agent in the Sacramento office said the agency would look into Helms’ comments.”

We're so on the flippin’ edge of disaster...

Our First Muslim President is going to get a bonus for destroying the USA. There's hardly any Americans who will even consider that Obama is working for Islamic domination of the world when it should be obvious to even a Forest Gump idiot that is exactly what he is doing.

Arab Spring. How many fell for that silly BS?
