Senators propose comprehensive immigration changes

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two senators on opposite sides of the aisle are proposing comprehensive changes to the immigration laws that would include a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants now in the United States.

Democrat Chuck Schumer of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who promoted similar proposals on separate Sunday news shows said that no path to citizenship would be available until the country's borders were secure.

We had amnesty in 1986 the problem with the 1986 "reform" was simply that IT WAS NOT ENFORCED once amnesty was granted! The borders were not enforced.. the law was ignored by government and business.

In the early 2000s we had miles of FR threads about this.

The "reform" granted legal status to far more than was declared during the debate and as the years passed millions more poured through the border with the full knowledge and approval of government and business. They were all here illegally with the full knowledge and welcome of government and business.

The SSA has file called the Earnings Suspense File (ESF) which documents every SSN earning that did not match the SS master file. Nothing is deleted from the ESF unless the earnings are transferred to a valid SSN in the SS master files. Records in the ESF go back to 1937.

FIGURE 1: STATUS OF THE EARNINGS SUSPENSE FILE (Tax Years 1937-2000) in CONGRESSIONAL RESPONSE REPORT Social Security Administration Benefits Related to Unauthorized Work, A-03-03-23053 (March, 2003), shows some interesting things about the Earnings Suspense File (ESF).

It shows that following the 1986 amnesty and "reform" there was a decrease in volume of records in the file.

Well, the SSA does not delete earnings statements from the ESF unless it can transfer the earnings to a valid SSN. Amnesty -- by any name -- creates valid SSNs and the SSA will transfer past earnings data submitted with bogus SSNs to valid SSNs. It helps SS for the ILLEGALS to have their old W-2s showing the bogus SSNs they used.

To the best of my knowledge it was a 2004 law that finally required SS benefits be earned with authorized work from 2004 on. ILLEGAL aliens can get SS benefits based upon all bogus SSNs prior to 2004 once they become legal "guest workers," or through their own efforts they become legal and acquire a valid SSN -- or get amnesty.

Immigration "reform" will likely delete the 2004 requirement -- if it was ever enforced anyway.

Border enforcement will be IGNORED no matter the law.. that cheap, taxpayer subsidized labor is just to valuable to businesses.

I say let’s give amnesty to illegal aliens with two big qualifications... one, you CANNOT collect any public/government benefits for 10 years, and two, you CANNOT vote for 25 years.

We’re already done.

If nothing else convinces Americans to oppose amnesty this should convince them.

If nothing else the sight of these guffawing goofballs would make me oppose "comprehensive reform."

They had just -- through "hard work and dedication" -- worked out the details of comprehensive reform in 2007. Then the whole thing blew up in their fat faces.

Yeah, they still owe us a border closing from the last “amnesty”. They like to harp about everyone else “paying their fair share” while they ignore their own debts. Don’t know any more what there is for it, but war. We’ve tried everything else.

This government is going to do as it wants to do. From the bottom up, it makes no difference.

Senators, congressman, governors, they are going to do as they dang well please. All the while giving lip service to those who still fall for such service.

Well, I don't fall for it and I'm tired of fighting.

Let the Obama lovers have it! They are WILLINGLY IGNORANT. Let them live in their altruistic world. I don't even think they have sense enough to mourn freedom.

I can deal with this immigrant stuff because it won't really be bad until I'm dead and gone.

I'm old enough to suffer under the current regime - I got mine and if I lose it I still have the ability to roll with the flow.

I'm tired of fighting for the young ingrates that vote coolness over country. Let ‘em have it!

If they do this, the Republican party is finished. Course the Rinos won’t care, they’ll just switch to Democratic Party and keep on keepin on.

THIS IS THE ONE THING THE DUMB ASS GOP BETTER STAND UP AGAINST OR ELSE THEY’LL BE THE MINORITY PARTY AND NEVER WIN THE PRESIDENCY AGAIN.

I hate the left in this country. Bunch of rich white elitist lawyers destroying our western culture and country for their own power grab. And that goes for any R who goes along with the destruction.

We’re already done as a Republic. We’ve been on the ropes for a while. Hanging on and hoping for a miracle. Nov 6 2012 sealed this nation’s fate. To be honest though I seriously doubt a Romney Presidency would have done anything but prolong our last gasp.

But as to the amnesty thing you know it’s gonna happen. Probably before 2013 is out. How can it be stopped? We hold no cards at all. If the Dems want it to happen it will. And they do want it to happen. So there it is.

What’s worse is I predict a whole lot more Republican “Leaders” (I use that term loosely) will jump on the amnesty bandwagon hoping the Hispanics will remember and throw them a bone.

Yes! truer words have never been written. These empty suit evil lawyers cutting up the country for their own power. RINOS only use us to get elected. They’ll switch to Dem in a second and use the new demographics to keep getting elected.

I actually liked Limbaugh’s idea: go ahead and make them legal but don’t let them vote for 25 years. Wonder if the dems would still favor amnesty then?

The libs would just find a judge to overturn it. And believe me, they would.

Obama will do it with or without the GOP and they know it.

The GOP’s just trying to appear relevant.

Amnesty and pay a couple of bucks for past felonies over an extended period of time.. while a citizen or legal resident pays a heavy price for document fraud if convicted.

More and more Americans asking about that pesky equal treatment under the law thingy.

Equal treatment under the law is of an universal concern for those here ILLEGALLY but what about equal treatment under the law for citizens punished for violations such as document fraud when such violation of law by ILLEGAL aliens are routinely reduced (or excused entirely) or settled by the payment of a few dollars?

I agree. There can be no compromise. If the Republicans cave then the Tea Party become the legitimate third party.
