White House Plans Public Appeal on Deficit

BY DAMIAN PALETTA AND JANET HOOK

WASHINGTON—The White House plans an aggressive public campaign to build support for its approach to reduce the deficit through tax increases and spending cuts, a sharp contrast to its private talks with Republicans that faltered last year.

President Barack Obama will meet with labor leaders Tuesday and a number of chief executives on Wednesday, in an effort to solidify backing for his proposals.

Both groups carry sway with different segments of lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Mr. Obama also plans to travel outside of Washington to try and broaden national support for his proposal that includes tax increases on the wealthy—which .

These people know that only tax CUTS coupled with spending cuts will increase revenue to the treasury.

The reasons they continue to engage in this tax increase rhetoric should be apparent to everyone with two brain cells to rub together at this point.

Translation:

Local media types will spew forth the White House line, ignoring the alternate case...and thus giving those of us who love the Constitution a reason to make our case loud and clear.

Now is not the time to go wobbly.

The White House hasn’t yet offered a new deficit-reduction proposal since the election. It has offered numerous plans since 2009 that call for a combination of tax increases and spending cuts, but it was careful not to make public the details of its plan last year during negotiations with Mr. Boehner.

BTW, I want the names of any “Chief Executives” who meet with the Kenyan communist and agree to his horsecrap.

I’ll be sure to let their companies know why they aren’t receiving my business.

his proposal that includes tax increases on the wealthy

tax increases that will land on the middle class. What's left of it. They know that the wealthy won't pay more taxes.

This is what Bush tried to do in his second term with Social Security...and the Democrats thwarted him loud and clear by using scare tactics, lies, and obstinate refusal to allow him to set the agenda!

Bush tried to "go around" Congress by holding public meetings...in order to get public approval for a plan.

Bush was stopped by aggressive methods used by Nazi Pelosi and friends.

Republicans have the truth on their side when it comes to the danger of Obama's tax proposals...so we ought to use THE SAME methods used against Bush.

Let's roll.

Any plan to deal with the deficit begins with a budget. The democrats dont have one.

...and spending cuts...

One suspects that "spending cuts" are immediate cuts to military and defense.

Any other "cuts" would be future, delayed, committeed, foggy, and fictional cuts (only Mister Boehner will believe it. Just watch.)

One also suspects that Obama BFF Bill Ayers will approve (if not author) the defense cuts.

One worries that Mister Boehner will go for this hook, line, and anvil.

No. WE are going to rot in hell. Obama will ram this through like TARP (although it will probably be easier than that was).

Liar-in-thief didn’t deliver nor even work toward that goal in the first term. What will happen is he will raise taxes but the deficit will not get cut. Anyone who believes this Fraud is a supreme dope and rape victim looking for more of the same.

Some are needed. The defense budget has plenty of pork and obsolete weapons. The thing to remember is that sequestration cuts defense wholesale and that going over that cliff is about the only way we can get D Senators to give any ground.

He can make all the public appeals he wants, but the public won’t be listening. I for one refuse to listen to him even when it’s just a clip. His stupid voters could care less about all this. They got their man back and now they are done.

If you look at the Emperor's proposal - it only cuts the growth rate not the growth.

The cut of 1.4 trillion is spread out over 10 years. And, by Congressional Budget estimates the deficit will grow by at least 10 million over those same years.

Only in Washington DC can a deficit increase of 9 trillion dollars be considered deficit reduction.

many Republicans appear to have softened their antitax rhetoric in the wake of the election, with many openly acknowledging that higher taxes will likely be part of any plan to reduce the deficit. Several Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner and Rep. Tom Price (R., Ga.), have said in recent days higher tax revenue could be part of a deal. They have refused to consider higher tax rates, saying that new revenue should come instead from new limits on deductions and other tax breaks, suggesting one potential approach to a deal.

As far as I can tell this has been the GOP position all along.

Close loopholes to secure new revenue...no higher taxes.
