If I'm guaranteed to an outcome which is equal to your outcome, without regard to merit -- I can sure guarantee you that I won't be working hard. At all. In fact, if I find myself working harder than you, I'm going to feel a fool. Nope. That's not for me. I'll let you be the hard worker. I'll kick back and just get my equal outcome on the mellow side.
Now: is that attitude going to permit a viable society? or will it ensure a society in steep decline?

Yep. No matter how stupid or lazy a person is, he must be rewarded equally with the intelligent and/or diligent person. It’s only fair. Of course under this rule, why bother trying?
