"Succession" is a legal term used in some states, analogous to "Probate" - the process by which a deceased person's property is transferred to their heirs or legatees, either in accordance with the terms of the decedent's Last Will & Testament, or state law.
Yeah, that sort of fits this situation. Or did you mean "Secession"? It's a common typo, almost as much so as "marshall" law.
