U.S. officials in Libya have begun to look for recruits whom they plan to train to form Libya's new army, a former commander of Libyan rebels who toppled Muammar Qaddafi said on Tuesday.

-----

A team of about 10 Americans from the embassy in Tripoli visited a paramilitary base in the eastern city of Benghazi 10 days ago to interview and get to know potential recruits, according to militia commander Fathi al-Obeidi.

“The American team asked us for a tour of our base and we granted them permission to walk around freely,” he told Reuters.

“They stood with many of our men taking down information. They asked them about their ages, backgrounds, their tribal loyalties. They wanted to know what kind of training they had received, if any.”

Training them to kill us. Failed strategy. Didn’t we learn anything from Afghanistan?

This suspiciously looks like the nation building we are so successfully implemented in Afghanistan!

We went in with bombs and rockets and for all I know soldiers on the ground to help “freedom fighters” take over (did we provide the freedom fighters with hardware, guns, commo, night vision?), and now we are apparently helping them to be responsible for their own security.

I wonder how many of these trained fighters will get help with emigrating to the USA, for “college”?

It seems odd to us because we don’t know what the real plan is.

And it WILL come back to bite us.

They clearly need training. It oughtn't to have taken them 7 hours to overrun our position.

Why don’t we supply them with weapons, train them in American ways of intelligence, and hire Americans so out-of-touch with reality that they’re able to pretend these folks don’t hate us.

Forgot - also need to get the MSM on board with pushing the ‘arab spring’ myth... and ignoring murders and rapes of US staff...

U.S. out of the Middle East - period.

Let it descend into the 7th century on its own, which, if left alone it will. I am tired of “rescuing” people who share little of our values and only want our help in pretending “democracy” is a route to building our values, when it is used by them as a route to gaurantee the worst of theirs.
